Max Reinhart records fourth multi-goal game, Marek Mazanec stops 27 shots in Admirals win
IOWA -- Max Reinhart recorded his fourth multi-goal game and Marek Mazanec stopped 27 shots to lead the Admirals to a 5-1 win over the Iowa Wild Sunday afternoon.
Reinhart has two games of two goals and two games of three goals this season for the Ads, who scored a team-high four power-play goals in the game.
Mazanec stopped 22 shots over the first two periods en route to his 17th win of the season and 53rd career, which tied him for 10th on the Admirals all-time list with Jan Lasak.
The Admirals claimed a 1-0 lead with a power play goal at 11:25 of the first period. Max Gortz sent a pass from the left wing board toward the right post where a heavily-defended Max Reinhart was able to tip the puck into the net for his team-leading 18th goal of the season. Gortz and Trevor Murphy recorded the assists. The goal was Reinhart’s fifth on the power play.
Reinhart gave the Ads a 2-0 lead just 16 seconds into the second period as he finished off a 2-on-1 play with Frederick Gaudreau with a shot from the left circle. Gaudreau and Pontus Aberg recorded the helpers.
Aberg scored another power play goal for Milwaukee at 3:38 of the second period to give the Admirals a 3-0 lead. Aberg fired a one-timed slapshot from the left circle into the net for his 17th goal of the season. The goal was Aberg’s fourth on the power play. Kevin Fiala, who made the pass which led to the goal from the right circle, and Murphy notched the assists.
Iowa scored a shorthanded goal at 2:54 of the third period. Milwaukee couldn’t clear the zone as Tyson Strachan grabbed a loose puck and sent it to the left point for Conor Allen. Allen shot the puck and it was deflected out of the air by Rob Bordson and into the net.
Milwaukee added another two power play goals. The first at 8:56 of the third period as Gaudreau fired a one-timer from the right circle for his 15th goal of the season and seventh on the power play. Vladislav Kamenev and Taylor Aronson were awarded assists.
Murphy scored a 5-on-3 power play goal at 10:23 of the third to give Milwaukee a 5-1 lead. It was Murphy’s 10th goal of the season and third on the power play. Gortz and Aberg recorded the assists.
The Ads return home Fri., Mar. 18 to entertain Charlotte at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
