MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The American Hockey League announced today that Milwaukee Admirals goaltender Marek Mazanec has been selected as the CCM/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Apr. 13, 2014.
Mazanec won all three of his starts last week, stopping 80 of 83 shots for a 1.00 goals-against average and a .964 save percentage to help Milwaukee clinch their 12th straight berth in the Calder Cup Playoffs.
On Tuesday night vs. Rockford, Mazanec made 26 saves to backstop Milwaukee to a 3-1 victory over the IceHogs. He then came back with 26 saves and was named the game’s first star in a 4-1 win at Rockford on Friday, a victory that secured the Admirals’ 12th consecutive postseason appearance. On Saturday, Mazanec stopped 28 of 29 shots as Milwaukee earned a 4-1 win at Chicago.
A sixth-round draft choice by Nashville in 2012, Mazanec has appeared in 30 games with Milwaukee this season and has a record of 17-10-3 with a 2.49 goals-against average and a .912 save percentage. The 22-year-old rookie from Ceske Budejovice, Czech Republic, also played 25 games with the Predators in 2013-14, going 8-10-4 with two shutouts in the NHL while earning Rookie of the Month honors for November. Mazanec won the Czech Extraliga championship with HC Plzen in 2013.
In recognition of his achievement, Mazanec will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Admirals home game.
Mazanec and the Admirals will conclude the home portion of their schedule on Friday, April 18th when they play host the Charlotte Checkers at 7 pm.
