TORONTO (WITI) -- Defenseman Taylor Aronson scored the game-winner with 30 seconds left in overtime to give the Milwaukee Admirals a 3-2 win over the Toronto Marlies Sunday afternoon.
Aronson scored his third goal of the season after Colton Sissons won a face-off in the left circle and drove the puck to the net. Marlies goalie Antoine Bibeau poked the puck from Sissons, but Aronson fired the puck into the cage for his third goal of the season.
Milwaukee goalie Magnus Hellberg stopped 31 shots to earn his seventh win of the season.
Toronto struck first when Brandon Kozun stole a loose pick and slid a shot past Admirals goalie Hellberg at 4:57 of the first period.
The Admirals tied the game at 12:30 of the first period. Viktor Arvidsson banked the puck off the left wing wall from the Admirals blue line to spring Mark Van Guilder and Austin Watson to a 2-on-1. Van Guilder passed to Watson in the right circle and Watson buried his team-leading 12th goal of the season. It was Watson’s 100th career professional point (99 in the AHL and 1 in the NHL).
The Admirals claimed the lead at 3:47 of the second period. Felix Girard intercepted a pass at the Admirals blue line and skated into the Marlies zone along the left win wall. He stopped at the hash marks and put a wrist shot to the net that found its way over the shoulder of goalie Antoine Bibeau. The goal, Girard’s third of the season, was unassisted.
Toronto’s Ryan Rupert knotted the game at 2-2 when he deflected a shot from the left point for a power play tally at 11:13 of the second period.
Admirals forward Triston Grant played his 600th professional game. Grant has played 589 in the AHL and 11 in the NHL.
The Admirals tied a season high for shots on goal with 41. The Marlies finished with 33.
