Milwaukee Admirals sign goalie Hannu Toivonen to PTO
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The Milwaukee Admirals announced Wednesday, January 15th that they have signed goaltender Hannu Toivonen to a professional tryout contract (PTO).
Toivonen was selected 29th overall by the Boston Bruins in the first round of the 2002 NHL draft. He has played 61 games in the NHL for the Bruins and the St. Louis Blues. The last time Toivonen was in the AHL was with Rockford in the 2010-11 season when he posted a 4-1-0-1 record against the Admirals.
After playing with the Ice Hogs Toivonen moved leagues a few times. He has spent time playing overseas with the Malmo Redhawks of the top Swedish league and the Saimaan Pallo of the Finnish SM-liiga. This year he has been playing for the Toledo Walleye, where he has a 7-8-0 record and 3.61 goals against average and a .899 save percentage.
Toivonen will join the team on their upcoming road trip to San Antonio and Oklahoma City before returning to the Bradley Center for a game against the Toronto Marlies on Tuesday January 21 at 7:00 pm.
