Nervous students watch Marquette take on Davidson in NCAA Tourney

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The Marquette University Golden Eagles defeated Davdison in the first round of "March Madness" NCAA Tournament play in Lexington, Kentucky in a close game -- with a final score of 59-58.

Back in Milwaukee, there was a lot of excitement surrounding the game -- especially on the Marquette campus.

FOX6 News found a lot of excited, hopeful and nervous Marquette fans watching the game at the Union Sports Annex on campus.

Students with backpacks in tow started filing into the Union Sports Annex shortly before tipoff, just after 2:00 p.m.

Some even skipped class to take in the game.

"It's my senior year and I hope we're going to go for awhile now.  Like I actually work at the games normally so it’s also fun to be able to just watch it now," Laura Greteman said.

Luke Hagerty is a freshman, and he skipped class too.

"I did skip a class so I guess that puts me somewhere between a good fan and a great fan?" Hagerty said.

Once play began, all eyes were on the game.

For Blaire Schrick, it was a nail biter by halftime.

"Took me off guard I’m not going to lie. I didn’t even know where Davidson was on the map. Now I do. So there," Schrick said.

Marquette next faces Butler -- a game that is set to be played on Saturday, March 23rd.
