GREEN BAY -- Green Bay Packers' players and coaches aren't the only ones preparing for the regular season opener. The Packers take on the San Francisco 49ers Sunday, September 9th at Lambeau Field, and officials are working to get Lambeau Field and the surrounding area ready for the regular season.

For many in Wisconsin, the start of Packers season is better than Christmas. Nothing signals the beginning of another year like the smell of fresh paint on Lombardi Avenue.

For 28 years, Bruce Kiel has painted a fence near Lambeau Field.

"It's kind of a great tradition here in Green Bay and certainly signifies the start of the season," Packers President and CEO Mark Murphy said.

Area businesses are also adding to their playbook for the new season.

"You don't want to miss Packers games. They bring in too much money for the year for you," Stadium View Bar & Grille owner Jerry Watson said.

Stadium View is putting the finishing touches on a new outdoor bar area. Watson says it is okay it wasn't complete for pre-season.

"That's amateur days. Now next Sunday and the following Thursday is when we find out whether we are as good as we think we are," Watson said.

Another sign the regular season is upon us is a lack of railbirds. Practice is now closed to the public, so if you want to see the Pack in action live, you'll need tickets.

John Schmidt of Schmitty's Tickets says he has plenty of tickets available at lower than usual prices. Schmitty's Tickets says tickets for the 49ers game are still priced at least $60 above face value.

Schmidt says excitement is still high for other games, as are expectations.
