Packers headed to NFC Championship game after 26-21 victory over Cowboys
GREEN BAY (WITI) -- The Green Bay Packers secured a trip to the NFC Championship game against the Seattle Seahawks with a 26-21 victory over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, January 11th.
The game time temperature was 24 degrees -- and the stands were packed -- setting up what many have called, Ice Bowl II.
The Green Bay Packers scored first against the Cowboys in a ten-play, 60-yard first drive. It was capped off by a four-yard touchdown pass from Aaron Rodgers to Andrew Quarless.
On the next drive, the Cowboys drove 62 yards in 12 plays. Quarterback Tony Romo finished off the drive with a one-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Clutts. That tied up the game, 7-7.
Early in the second quarter, the Packers' Corey Linsley snapped the ball when Rodgers wasn't quite ready. Seconds later, Rodgers coughed up the ball -- and Dallas recovered.
The Cowboys took advantage of the turnover by driving to a score. Romo hit Terrance Williams for a 38-yard touchdown. Dallas took the edge, 14-7.
Green Bay finishes off the first half with a five-play drive -- and a 40-yard field goal from Mason Crosby. At the half, the Cowboys remained on top, 14-10.
Early in the third quarter, the Packers stripped the ball from Romo -- and then drove the ball 32 yards in six plays. That led to a 30-yard field goal by Crosby. Cowboys remained on top, 14-13.
Dallas fired back with a quick score on the next series. DeMarco Murray punched in a one-yard run to extend the Cowboys' lead. It was 21-13 at that point.
Green Bay made a statement on the next series. The team drove 90 yards in seven plays -- topping it off with a 46-yard touchdown pass from Rodgers to Davante Adams. The Packers were down by just one, 21-20.
The next scoring drive was again by the Packers. Green Bay took the ball 80 yards in eight plays -- and scored on a 13-yard pass to Richard Rodgers. The Packers failed to complete a two-point conversion. The score, Packers up 26-21.
The Packers managed to hold on to the ball -- and burn the clock at the end of the game to secure the victory. They will be playing the Seattle Seahawks in Seattle next Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. -- and you'll be able to see the game ONLY ON FOX6.
