Concession workers needed at Lambeau

GREEN BAY (WITI) -- The renovations to the south end zone at Lambeau Field are rolling right along.  The team says it expects the work to be done in early August.  The updates include nearly 30 new concession stands to provide for thousands of new fans.  On Thursday, May 9th, the team's concessionaire announced it wants to hire more than 400 people to work those areas on game day.

7,000 fans are expected to fill the new seats in the south end zone.  Those fans will probably be hungry and thirsty.  Team officials say they need hundreds of workers to meet the need.

Packers officials say they are looking to hire right now.

"We got 80,000 people live at the stadium. We just don't have enough folks that are working behind the scenes," Packers VP of Sales and Marketing Tim Connolly said.

The Packers are looking for more than 400 new individual workers. That includes opportunities for about 50 non-profit groups.

Concession stand operators will keep 5-10% of sales. Workers can make $12 to $18 per hour.

"We want to get good, fresh food, fast over the counter," Delaware North Companies Sportservice General Manager Charlie Millerwise said.

From popcorn, to soft drinks, to pizza from the oven, the company running the concession stands hopes the state-of-the-art snack stand will attract game-day workers.

"It doesn't take a chef to do that. They're designed so they're very user-friendly. Just about anybody with a little bit of training can jump back there and produce a great quality product," Millerwise said.

30 concessions stands will serve fans in the south endzone.

Renovations there are part of $146 million project. Crews are putting on the finishing touches.

Packers President and CEO Mark Murphy toured the area on Thursday. Murphy says the wall of 7,000 seats will give the team an edge.

"We saw even last year, having the structure up without any fans, it was much louder. The structure kept the noise in. It is actually designed in a way to keep the noise in," Murphy said.

Murphy says fans will be able to sit in the new south end zone seats during Packers Family Night.

Officials hope to have workers in place by the start of the season.

"A lot of folks have their own Sunday ritual for watching the Packers game. We're just looking for folks to come out and be a part of history. Be a part of Packers football. And you can do it right here in the south end zone working in a concession stand," Millerwise said.

Packers officials say during last season, 78 non-profit groups earned more than $800,000 for their causes.
