Packers unveil second sponsored gate at Lambeau Field
GREEN BAY -- The Green Bay Packers say the newest named gate at Lambeau Field has a deeper partnership than just a name on a sign. The Bellin Health gate was unveiled Monday, July 30th.
Packers President Mark Murphy and Bellin CEO George Kerwin say the two companies will partner together for "Titletown Wellness" initiatives. Both the Packers and Bellin say it's a mutual goal to have the people of Northeast Wisconsin leading healthy lifestyles.
"There are thousands and thousands of people here on game day, and there are a lot of health-related offerings we can provide to that population," Kerwin said.
The CEOs say some of those health-related activities could include free blood pressure screenings or even a flu shot clinic. Bellin Health has been the official healthcare partner of the Packers since 2007.
While the Packers won't say how much money they've gotten for selling naming rights for two gates, and extending a partnership with MillerCoors, sports economists say it's definitely giving the team a boost in revenue.
"We couldn't be more pleased that we found a partner in Bellin Health. It's a great way to partner with a local company and provide them visibility that benefits them," Murphy said.
Last week, the team showed off the Shopko gate.
Sports economist Kevin Quinn at St. Norbert College says the Packers have come up with a unique way to create revenue without changing the name of Lambeau Field.
"The Packers are keeping up with the Joneses. Maybe they are the Joneses. Lambeau Field is a cathedral. There was some talk years ago of whether the Packers were going to sell the naming rights to the stadium and that didn't set well with folks," Quinn said.
"I think we all agree that the biggest asset we have is Lambeau Field. We're not going to sell the naming rights to the stadium," Murphy said.
"My guess is when you add up all five gates together it's probably fairly similar to what they'd get if they sold the naming rights," Quinn said.
Quinn says for the Packers to continue to succeed financially, they'll have to provide companies the incentive to back them with continued success on the field.
The new Bellin Health entrance is equipped with six elevators for fans who need greater accessibility on game day.
