Packers' Za'Darius Smith faces 2 citations, including marijuana possession
RACINE COUNTY -- Green Bay Packers defensive lineman Za’Darius Smith faces two citations – including for one for marijuana possession – in Racine County.
A citation for possession/use of synthetic marijuana was filed Oct. 30 in Racine County, while a traffic forfeiture for speeding on freeway (20 to 24 miles per hour) was filed Oct. 21 in Racine County.
According to the incident report from the traffic stop that led to the marijuana citation, Smith was stopped on the off-ramp to State Highway 20 northbound in Sturtevant on Oct. 29. The report said investigators recovered three marijuana blunts and one THC vape cartridge.
The report said deputies on patrol on the Highway 11 northbound on-ramp to I-94 conducting speed enforcement observed a vehicle that appeared to be speeding, clocking the vehicle at 81 miles per hour in the 60 miles per hour construction zone.
According to the report, Smith, the driver, said they were headed back to Green Bay. Two other Packers players were passengers in the vehicle, the report said.
The report said Smith indicated they had smoked marijuana earlier, but there was no marijuana in the vehicle.
A package of cigars was found inside a bag in the driver's side second row of the vehicle, containing three unsmoked rolled cigars containing what appeared to be marijuana, along with a THC vape cartridge in a bag in the trunk, the report said. The report said Smith indicated the items which tested positive for THC were his.
An initial court appearance for both citations was scheduled for Nov. 7, court records showed.
