Racine native Caron Butler gives back to community
MILWAUKEE -- Racine's own Caron Butler has made it big in the NBA, he's played in two all-star games, won a league X-Ship, and made more money than he could ever possibly have imagined growing up. Just last year Butler signed a three year 24 million dollar contract with the Los Angeles Clippers.
Caron Butler's emotional heartfelt comments on the day he made a $200,000 commitment to four great causes in the Racine community were touching and understandable. The husband and father of five can never forget where he came from.
Caron grew up without a father, and sold drugs when he was 11 years old. he was arrested 15 times before his 15th birthday. Just before the squad car drove off for the final time, the troubled teen looked into the eyes it was a defining moment in his life.
One of the right things was coming here to the Bray Center in Racine where Butler came under the guidance of Executive Director Jameel Ghuari. He recognized Caron's special gift as a basketball player, and didn't want the young man to ever stray again.
