Three-game winning streak snapped: Admirals fall to Griffins, 4-1
GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan -- Anthony Mantha scored three goals and added an assist to lead the Grand Rapids Griffins to a 4-1 win over the Admirals Wednesday night, February 17th.
The loss snapped Milwaukee’s three-game winning streak. The Admirals went 0-4-0-0 in games at Van Andel Arena this season. The Admirals also remain tied with Rockford for first place in the Central Division.
Griffins goalie Jared Coreau stopped 29 shots to improve to 8-2-0 in his career against the Admirals.
Grand Rapids scored the first goal of the game with a penalty shot goal from Anthony Mantha. Mantha drew the penalty as he skated around two Admirals defenseman but was hauled down as he got to the Admirals net before he could shoot. The goal was scored at 2:24 of the first period.
Griffins defenseman Nathan Paetsch scored at 5:24 of the first period to give his team a 2-0 lead. Paetsch shot the puck from the middle of the blue line and it was able to knuckle into the net.
Mantha scored his second goal of the game with a slapshot from the right circle at 17:21 of the second period to make the score 3-0.
The Admirals got on the board at 8:25 of the second period when Taylor Aronson’s wraparound attempt got across the goal line for his fourth goal of the season. Cody Hodgson and Johan Alm recorded the assists.
Mantha completed the hat trick with a power play goal at 12:19 of the third period.
The Admirals return home Saturday, February 20th to entertain Manitoba at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
