University of Wisconsin introduces Paul Chryst as new Badgers football coach

MADISON (WITI) — The University of Wisconsin revealed on Wednesday evening, December 17th that Paul Chryst will be the new football coach for the Badgers -- replacing Gary Andersen.

Chryst is a former Wisconsin offensive coordinator and a Madison native. He leaves the Pittsburgh Panthers after going 19-19 in three seasons, returning to his hometown and alma mater.

The 49-year-old Chryst had two prior stints as an assistant coach for the Badgers. Most notably, he was part of the Wisconsin staff from 2005-11, helping the Badgers to five double-digit victory seasons and two Rose Bowls.

He was coordinator in 2011 when the high-scoring Badgers featured quarterback Russell Wilson and running back Montee Ball.

According to the University of Wisconsin website, Chryst grew up in Platteville. His late father George was a former UW football student-athlete and assistant coach. After quarterbacking Platteville High School to a state title, Paul joins the UW football team. He would earn three letters from 1986-1989 playing linebacker, safety, quarterback and tight end.

Paul and his wife Robin have three children, Katy, JoJo and Danny.
