Who are the new owners of the Milwaukee Bucks?
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Who are the new owners of the Milwaukee Bucks? Their names are Marc Lasry and Wes Edens.
Marc Lasry is the Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and a Co-Founder of Avenue Capital Group. Founded in 1995, Avenue is a global investment firm with over $13 billion of assets under management. Avenue maintains its headquarters in New York and has offices in London, Luxembourg, Munich and throughout Asia.
Mr. Lasry received a B.A. in History from Clark University and a J.D. from New York Law School.
According to Forbes Magazine, "The onetime bankruptcy lawyer--Lasry's brief legal career included a clerkship for a bankruptcy judge in New York--turned to investing 30 years ago, specializing in distressed assets. Lasry founded Avenue Capital in 1995 with his sister, Sonia Gardner, with about $10 million in cash. The firm currently manages over $12 billion in assets. A major donor to Barack Obama and other Democrats, Lasry almost left his hedge fund firm, but eventually turned down a chance to become the U.S. Ambassador to France in 2013."

Wesley R. Edens is a Founder and Co-Chairman of the Board of Directors of Fortress Investment Group LLC. Fortress was founded in 1998 and is a $62 billion alternative asset management company with headquarters in New York and offices around the world. Mr. Edens is responsible for Fortress’s private equity business, which primarily invests in the transportation and infrastructure, real estate, health care, financial services and media sectors.
Mr. Edens was raised in Helena, Montana, and received a B.S. in Finance from Oregon State University.
Forbes Magazine said this about Wes Edens: "Wesley R. Edens has been Co-Chairman of the Board of Directors since August 2009, and he has been a member of the Board of Directors since November 2006. Mr. Edens has been a member of the Management Committee of Fortress since co-founding the Company in 1998. Mr. Edens is responsible for the Company's private equity and publicly traded alternative investment businesses."
