Trials in Death of George Floyd

The fourth and final former Minneapolis police officer charged for his role in George Floyd's murder was sentenced in court on Monday. 

Tou Thao has been found guilty for his role in George Floyd's murder in May 2020.

The former Minneapolis police officer serving time for the 2020 murder of George Floyd pleaded guilty Friday to two counts of tax evasion.

An attorney for Derek Chauvin is planning to ask an appeals court to throw out the former Minneapolis police officer’s convictions in the murder of George Floyd, arguing that numerous legal and procedural errors deprived him of a fair trial.

J. Alexander Kueng was sentenced Friday in Hennepin County Court for his role in the murder of George Floyd in May 2020. 

There was a "hot mic" moment after the hearing was over when Lane questioned his attorney about why he had to register as a "predatory offender."

Former Minneapolis police officers Tou Thao and J. Alexander Kueng have rejected last and final plea offers, and will go to trial this fall. 

The final two former Minneapolis police officers who violated George Floyd's civil rights were sentenced Wednesday in federal court.

Former Minneapolis police officer Thomas Lane was sentenced Thursday to two and a half years in prison for depriving George Floyd of his civil rights. The sentencing comes nearly 26 months to the day that George Floyd was murdered.

Derek Chauvin was sentenced to 20 ½ years in prison on Thursday after reaching a plea agreement on federal charges that he violated George Floyd's civil rights in 2020, as well as those of Jonathan Pope, a Black teenager, in 2017. 

Federal prosecutors are asking a judge to give former Minneapolis Officer Derek Chauvin a 25-year sentence for violating the rights of George Floyd, as well as the rights of a 14-year-old Black boy who was restrained in an unrelated case. 

The trial for the two former Minneapolis police officers charged in connection with George Floyd's murder has been rescheduled, again.

One of the defendants in the federal trial of three former MPD officers has tested positive for COVID-19.  So, instead of the prosecution’s 12th witness taking the stand, court was called off until Monday.
