MILWAUKEE -- There's been plenty of change with the Marquette University women's basketball team in the past year, with a new head coach, and a lot of new players, but instead of making excuses, they're making opponents frustrated."Wow, this could be a very special team," said Lauren Van Kleunen, Golden Eagles guard.The Megan Duffy era of Marquette women's basketball seems to be off to a special start."We just keep building chemistry every day," said Coach Duffy.Taking over a team that lost six players to graduation, Coach Duffy and the Golden Eagles haven't flinched."I'm just as competitive and want to keep Marquette at the top, and they have, in the past few years, done a tremendous job in winning championships, and that's our goal every year, despite what the roster looks like, despite who's coming in, and that was my goal, to sustain that, and get those other kids experienced to be in that limelight, and to really showcase their talents," said Coach Duffy.

MILWAUKEE -- While the Iowa caucuses took hours in the Corn State, it took just minutes at a satellite caucus at Marquette University in Milwaukee.For all intents and purposes, the room in Marquette's Alumni Memorial Union may as well have been in Iowa Monday, Feb. 3."It's fun, it's exciting, and it's really necessary to come together, and stand together, to fight for what we need, and fight for a candidate that will fight for us," said Eric Rorholm, Marquette College Democrats chairman and Spokane, Washington native.Rorholm was one of the reasons Marquette played host to the caucuses."It's really cool that I get to expand this process to people that maybe don't have the means to go back to Iowa, don't have the time, don't have the money to go back," said Rorholm.Des Moines resident Joe Martin, in Milwaukee for work, said he was pleased to take part in the unique nomination process hundreds of miles from home."If this is how the Iowa Democratic Party wants to do it, I'm there," said Martin. "I plan on supporting Elizabeth Warren, which, if she's not viable, I'm Bernie Sanders.

Markus Howard returns with 31 points; Marquette downs DePaul

MILWAUKEE -- Marquette University men's basketball coach Steve Wojciechowski said Monday he was stunned to learn of the death of Kobe Bryant, who, along with his daughter, Gianna, was among nine killed in a helicopter crash Sunday, Jan. 26 in Calabasas, California."He had an intolerance for mediocrity," said Coach Wojciechowski.Bryant was respected on the many courts he conquered."He expected your best," said Wojciechowski. Markus Howard leads Marquette to 71-60 upset of No. 10 Villanova

MILWAUKEE — Markus Howard scored 29 points and Marquette started 2020 with a 71-60 upset of 10th-ranked Villanova on Saturday, Jan. 4.Howard, who entered the day as the nation's top scorer at more than 25 points a game, added eight rebounds before fouling out to lead the Golden Eagles (10-3, 1-1 Big East).Cole Swider and Justin Moore each had 14 points for Villanova (10-2, 1-1), which had won its last six games.The difference came at the foul line — Marquette made 26 of 30, Villanova 3 of 5.

Police: 1 arrested after shots fired near Marquette University

MILWAUKEE -- Marquette University police on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 8 posted a safety alert on social media regarding a shots fired incident that happened near 22nd Street and Wisconsin Avenue.The victim stated he was stopped at the stop sign at  23rd St and Wisconsin Avenue when an unknown suspect fired 3-4 shots, striking his vehicle.

Marquette faculty, staff serve Thanksgiving dinner for students unable to travel home

MILWAUKEE -- Marquette University faculty and staff served a Thanksgiving meal Thursday, Nov. 28 for approximately 300 students unable to travel home for the holiday, along with members of the community.MU officials said many of those taking part were international students.The Thanksgiving dinner was served in the Cobeen Hall dining room and was made possible by Campus Ministry, the Office of Residential Life, and Sodexo Food Service.

MU Law Poll: Fewer Wisconsin voters think President Trump should be impeached, compared to October

MILWAUKEE -- The support for impeaching and removing President Donald Trump from office appears to be decreasing in the key swing state of Wisconsin, as Republicans rally around the embattled president, a poll released Wednesday, Nov. 20 showed.“You’ve got Republicans coming home to Trump,” said Charles Franklin, director of the Marquette University Law School poll.The poll showed 40% of respondents support impeaching and removing President Trump.
