Students from Puerto Rico attending Marquette University to host relief drive

MILWAUKEE -- There are about 50 students from Puerto Rico attending Marquette University and they've organized a relief drive to help the victims of Hurricane Maria.According to a news release, the drive will take place on Saturday, September 30th from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Alumni Memorial Union located at 1442 West Wisconsin Avenue.Organizers are asking people to bring batteries, flashlights, bottled water, canned food, medicine, first aid kits, personal hygiene items, mosquito repellent, towels, battery powered fans, cleaning supplies, feminine care, garbage bags, toilet paper and blankets.In addition, Marquette has invited students from Puerto Rico and the Caribbean to a solidarity dinner Saturday night, Sept. 30th.The news release says in the wake of Hurricane Maria, Marquette’s Campus Ministry sent an email to students from Puerto Rico and the Caribbean offering support and prayers and expressing concern for their well-being.

Sendik’s Fresh2GO opens on campus of Marquette University

MILWAUKEE -- The new Sendik’s Fresh2GO Marquette store officially opened on the campus of Marquette University on Tuesday, August 22nd.The grocery store is located on 16th Street, just north of West Wells Street.Marquette President Michael Lovell was joined on Tuesday by Sendik’s family co-owner Ted Balistreri and civic leaders, including Mayor Tom Barrett and Alderman Bob Bauman, as well as other senior leaders from Marquette and Sendik’s for the grand opening celebration.

Police: Marquette University employee hit by car near campus

MILWAUKEE -- Marquette University police say a Marquette University employee was hit by a vehicle and seriously injured while crossing the street on Monday, August 21st.It happened around 1:20 p.m. near the intersection of 15th and Wells Street.Officials say MUPD immediately responded to the scene and the employee was taken a hospital for treatment.The employee is in stable condition.Authorities say the driver of the vehicle cooperated with the investigation.

Marquette celebrates 100 years of men's hoops 1 last time

MILWAUKEE — Marquette celebrated 100 years of men's basketball one last time with a dinner and event that included former players and coaches from the program's storied past.The school says that about 1,000 people attended the event on Friday night at the Bradley Center, which included player and coach panels from every era of the team's history.ESPN basketball analyst and former Duke player Jay Bilas hosted the festivities.

MILWAUKEE -- Thousands of students donned caps and gowns and walked across the stage, celebrating years of hard work, as Marquette University and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Sunday, May 21st hosted graduation ceremonies.The ceremonies took place right across the street from one another Sunday -- with MU's ceremony taking place at the BMO Harris Bradley Center, and UWM's celebration occurring at the UWM Panther Arena.
