Wisconsin receiver sues university over discipline probe

MADISON — Embattled University of Wisconsin receiver Quintez Cephus is suing the school because he says a disciplinary probe it is conducting while he's trying to defend himself in a criminal sexual assault case violates his rights.Cephus was suspended from the Badgers in August after he was charged with sexually assaulting two drunken women in his apartment.

Houston duo accused of stealing textbooks, targeting University of Wisconsin schools

MILWAUKEE -- A federal grand jury has returned an indictment against Ryan Lewis and Genisis Abellar, both of Houston, Texas.According to the indictment, Lewis and Abellar, both 35, stole textbooks from instructors’ offices at several University of Wisconsin System schools, including: University of Wisconsin – Green Bay, University of Wisconsin – Whitewater, University of Wisconsin – Stout, and University of Wisconsin – River Falls.

UW study to reclassify jobs, set compensation structure

MADISON — A consultant will be paid up to $900,000 to conduct a two-year study at the University of Wisconsin to reclassify and set compensation for thousands of jobs.The Title and Total Compensation Study is collaboration between the UW-Madison and the UW System, The Capital Times reported .The two entities are splitting the cost of New York-based consultant Mercer, said Stephanie Marquis, a UW System spokeswoman."It is needed," said Kevin Niemi, a UW-Madison academic staff member and outreach program manager. State pays out nearly $600K to settle UW-Madison sex cases

MADISON — The state has paid nearly $600,000 over the last decade to settle allegations of sexual misconduct by University of Wisconsin-Madison employees.New documents obtained by the Wisconsin State Journal and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel show 20 sexual harassment cases have been filed against UW-Madison workers since 2008.

Study: Falls from tree stands result in spinal injury

UW-Madison faculty, staff to get 4 percent pay increase

MADISON — The University of Wisconsin-Madison has announced plans to give faculty and staff a 4 percent pay increase over the next year.The Wisconsin State Journal reports that a 2 percent pay raise would occur in July followed by another 2 percent increase January 2019.The university says employees must have started in their current positions by Jan. 8, be meeting performance expectations and must complete campus sexual harassment training to qualify for the raise.University Chancellor Rebecca Blank says the raises will help the school keep talented employees.The university says it would be the first time since 2015 that its employees have gotten across-the-board raises.The state Legislature's Joint Committee on Employment Relations must formally approve the plan before it can take effect.

Agent arrested, accused of taking photos in women's bathroom

MADISON — University of Wisconsin police say they've arrested a federal agent for taking photos in a women's restroom at a residence hall.Authorities say the 27-year-old man went into the bathroom at Witte Hall on Friday and put his cell phone under an occupied stall and took pictures.

UW graduate student killed when vehicle left roadway, drove onto sidewalk

A 24-year-old University of Wisconsin graduate student scheduled to receive her master's degree next month has been identified as the pedestrian killed when a car left the road and drove onto a Madison sidewalk Saturday night.The Dane County Coroner's office said Monday that Wenxin "Wendy" Huai died from her injuries in the crash.UW-Madison Dean of Students Lori Berquam says that Huai is from Beijing and had been on the Madison campus since 2015 studying economics.

UW School of Medicine awarded $300K grant from NBA, GE Healthcare to study hamstring injuries

'Modern Family' co-creator picked for Wisconsin commencement

MADISON — Phil Dunphy from "Modern Family" can't understand why the University of Wisconsin would invite a guy named Steven Levitan to deliver its spring commencement address.Levitan explains in a video released by UW-Madison that he was picked because he is a 1984 graduate who went on to help create the hit TV show "Modern Family."
