Senate Majority Leader says Walker's plan to help pay for new Bucks arena is "pretty much dead"

MADISON (AP) — The Republican leader of the Wisconsin Senate says he is looking at alternatives to Governor Scott Walker's plan to help pay for a new arena for the Milwaukee Bucks.Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald said Thursday, March 19th that Walker's plan calling for issuing $220 million in bonds is "pretty much dead." Fitzgerald says he is talking with Milwaukee city and county leaders about other options that may or may not include state borrowing.Fitzgerald says he believes a deal can be reached that doesn't include state borrowing, but he'll do "whatever gets the deal done."Republicans who control the Legislature have been outspoken in their concerns over having the state borrow as much as Walker wanted to pay for a new arena.

Bucks comeback in New Orleans falls just short

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Anthony Davis had 20 points and 12 rebounds, and the New Orleans Pelicans held off the Milwaukee Bucks, 85-84 on Tuesday night.Davis, who shoots around 55 percent, hit only 6 of 18 shots, but made 8 of 9 free throws and hit a clutch 15-footer that gave New Orleans an 85-82 lead with 1:07 left.The lead held up by the narrowest of margins when Ersan Ilyasova's 3-point attempt at the final horn hit rattled off the inside of the rim twice before bouncing out — much to the relief of the Pelicans, who moved back into the Western Conference's final playoff spot with the victory.Ilyasova and Giannis Antetokounmpo each scored 15 for Milwaukee, while Jerryd Bayless and John Henson each scored 14.Quincy Pondexter hit five 3-pointers and finished with 18 points for New Orleans, while Omer Asik had 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Bucks retire Bob Dandridge's jersey

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Four-time NBA All-Star Bob Dandridge's No. 10 jersey was retired Saturday night by the Milwaukee Bucks.Honoring a key player from their 1971 NBA championship team, the Bucks held the retirement ceremony at halftime of their game against Washington — the other franchise Dandridge played for and helped win a title in his 13-year career.Known as the "The Greyhound," the 6-foot-6 Dandridge averaged 18.4 points on the 1971 Bucks squad led by Hall of Famers Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Oscar Robertson that beat Baltimore for the title.Dandridge was drafted by Milwaukee out of Norfolk State in the fourth round in 1969 — three rounds after the Bucks took Abdul-Jabbar.Dandridge "became a real player that you could depend on and was tough on the floor," Robertson said in introducing Dandridge.
