Illinois attorney general threatens to sue EPA over Foxconn

CHICAGO — Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan is threatening to sue the federal government over the massive Foxconn Technology Group manufacturing facility that's being built just north of the state's border in southeast Wisconsin.Madigan says she will file a lawsuit challenging a recent rule issued by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency reducing the number of areas in Wisconsin that need to meet more stringent ozone regulations.Madigan on Friday said she was concerned with the EPA decision last week to make Racine County, where the plant is to be located, subject to stricter air pollution guidelines.Madigan says the EPA is "putting a company's profit ahead of our natural resources and the public's health."The Taiwan-based company plans to build flat-screen display panels at the factory and campus that could employ up to 13,000 people.

Foxconn sets construction hiring targets

MOUNT PLEASANT — Foxconn Technology Group has set hiring goals for the construction of its manufacturing campus in southeast Wisconsin.The company's construction management team wants 60 percent of the project to be done by Wisconsin companies, with 70 percent of the job hours worked by Wisconsin residents, the Kenosha News reported .International construction company Gilbane has called for 10 percent of the subcontractors to be based in Racine County and 10 percent to be women-, minority- or veteran-owned businesses.Construction-related companies must register with Gilbane to receive automatic bid alerts and information about upcoming pre-bid and matchmaking sessions, said Mark Maley, a spokesman with the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp.Gilbane is known for projects that include Washington's Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Chicago's O'Hare International Airport Terminal 5 and Houston's Exxon-Mobil campus.Foxconn plans to focus on increasing capacity in workforce and business in Wisconsin, while also building a high-quality facility, said Adam Jalen, a representative of Foxconn.Building the $10 billion manufacturing complex is expected to generate 10,000 construction jobs each of the next four years.

RACINE -- A resource fair scheduled for Thursday, March 29 in Racine will help people find training and jobs in construction.The Wisconn Valley Construction Resource Fair will take place from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. at Racine Civic Centre's Festival Hall.Visitors will find resources to help them find education, skills training and apprenticeship opportunities."It's also an opportunity for people to talk with employers and see what those skill sets are going to be required to get into those positions,' said Chris Hagerup, Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development.The resource fair is free, and no sign-up is required.
