MCSO: 90-year-old wrong-way driver prompted officials to shut down I-43

MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee County Sheriff's office says a 90-year-old man was driving the wrong way on I-43 on Wednesday night, Nov. 13 -- and that is what prompted officials to shut down the freeway shortly after 8 p.m.Officials say deputies responded to northbound I-43 near the Ozaukee County line for the driver who was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes.

Probation plus jail time for woman convicted of 2nd OWI who led high-speed pursuit

MILWAUKEE -- A West Allis woman charged in connection with an April drunk driving incident and high-speed police pursuit was sentenced to probation plus jail time Wednesday, Nov. 6.Alyssa Stephens, 25, pleaded guilty Wednesday to one count of operator flee/elude officer, causing property damage, and one count of OWI, second offense.She was sentenced to serve two years and six months in prison, and two years and six months' probation on the first count, which was stayed.

Sheriff: Woman chased man with knife during confrontation after she nearly hit him with her vehicle

MILWAUKEE -- An alleged reckless driver was arrested after sheriff's officials said she was observed by a deputy chasing a man with a knife after nearly hitting him with her vehicle as he exited a Milwaukee County Transit System bus Tuesday morning, Nov. 5.The woman, identified by the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office as Rebecca Redlin, was arrested Tuesday morning for second degree recklessly endangering safety, disorderly conduct while armed, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended driver's license, and failure to obey a traffic light.Sheriff's officials said around 9:30 a.m., a deputy observed the woman chasing a man with a knife near 6th Street and Becher Street, as the man held a piece of grille from a vehicle "as if to protect himself."The deputy positioned his vehicle for cover and exited with his firearm drawn -- ordering the woman to drop the knife.

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee County sheriff's officials on Monday, Oct. 28 released a description of the vehicle sought in connection with a shooting that closed I-43 Sunday night, Oct. 27 -- the third such incident in less than two weeks.The shooting was non-fatal, and happened shortly before 8 p.m., north of Silver Spring Drive.The incident was reported by a driver whose minivan had sustained damage to the front driver-side window.

Driver cited for reckless driving, operating while suspended after 2-vehicle crash on Highway 175

MILWAUKEE -- A driver was cited for reckless driving and operating while suspended after a crash involving two vehicles Tuesday morning, Oct. 22.It happened around 10:30 a.m., and prompted a full freeway closure on northbound State Highway 175 (Miller Park),  forcing all traffic off at Washington Boulevard.Milwaukee County sheriff's officials said a preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of an SUV was traveling at high rate of speed on Highway 175 northbound and struck another vehicle, causing it to roll over.Both drivers reported injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

Driver arrested for 6th OWI offense on I-43 SB near Rosedale Avenue

MILWAUKEE -- A driver was arrested for OWI, sixth offense on I-43 southbound near Rosedale Avenue.It happened around 2:30 a.m.Officials with the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office said deputies on security patrol stopped to assist the driver of what appeared to be a disabled vehicle, who was walking away from the vehicle.MCSO officials identified the driver as Eloy Mena, and said he displayed signs of impairment while talking with deputies.

Shooting closes I-43 SB; 19-year-old victim hospitalized after shooting near 8th and Keefe

MILWAUKEE -- A shooting led to the closure of southbound I-43 at Keefe Avenue and Locust Street Monday night, Oct. 14, Milwaukee police confirmed.Officials say the shooting happened on southbound I-43 near 8th and Keefe around 8:30 p.m. The shooting victim, 19, was taken to the hospital from a McDonald's restaurant near 9th and North Avenue.
