Man admits to snorting heroin before rollover crash on I-43 in Plainfield Curve

MILWAUKEE -- A man was taken into custody Friday night, Sept. 21 after allegedly admitting to snorting heroin before a rollover crash on I-43.According to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called out to the scene of a rollover crash on southbound I-43 in the Plainfield Curve around 6:15 p.m.Upon arrival, the driver was trapped in a pickup truck and was in and out of consciousness.

17-year-old arrested in stolen vehicle told deputies: 'I was bored, so I took the car'

MILWAUKEE -- A 17-year-old boy from Milwaukee was arrested after a stolen van was stopped on I-41/45 northbound at Watertown Plank early Wednesday, Sept. 19.According to a news release from the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office, a deputy on patrol spotted the Dodge Grand Caravan with Minnesota plates traveling at 84 miles-per-hour in a 55 miles-per-hour zone around 1 a.m. Wednesday.

MCSO: Weapons, drugs, stolen vehicle recovered during overnight traffic stops

MILWAUKEE -- Weapons, drugs and a stolen vehicle were recovered overnight Tuesday, Sept. 11 by the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) in an effort to pursue reckless drivers and stolen vehicles.Around 10:15 p.m. Tuesday, the MCSO Tactical Enforcement Unit (TEU) pulled over a driver near 51st and Hampton because the license plates did not match the vehicle.The driver pulled over but sped away when a deputy approached.

2 taken to hospital after crash involving 2 motorcycles on Hoan Bridge

MILWAUKEE -- Two people were taken to the hospital after a motorcycle crash on the Hoan Bridge Thursday morning, Aug. 30.It happened in the northbound lanes shortly after 11 a.m., as a group was riding from the House of Harley to Veterans Park.The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office said one motorcycle slowed because of traffic, and was rear-ended by the motorcycle behind it, carrying two people.Both riders on the second motorcycle were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Former MPD Officer Dominique Heaggan-Brown drops suit against sheriff's office over jail conditions

MILWAUKEE -- Former Milwaukee Police Officer Dominique Heaggan-Brown has dropped his federal lawsuit against the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office.Heaggan-Brown, who shot and killed Sylville Smith, sparking days of unrest in August of 2016, spent nearly 600 days in jail, awaiting trial in a sexual assault case.He claimed inmates threatened to kill him, he experienced inhumane conditions and denied medication.On Wednesday, Aug. 29, Heaggan-Brown submitted a handwritten note, dropping the suit because he didn't want to pay the $400 filing fee.

Motorcyclist thrown from bike over barrier wall on ramp to I-94 WB in Marquette Interchange

MILWAUKEE -- A motorcyclist was involved in a crash in the Marquette Interchange Wednesday evening, Aug. 22.Officials with the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office said the operator was thrown from the motorcycle and over the barrier wall, landing in the grassy area below -- near 11th and Tory Hill.It happened shortly before 7 p.m. The motorcycle was traveling on the ramp from I-43 to I-94 westbound when the operator crashed into the barrier wall.The motorcyclist was seriously hurt, and taken to the hospital.

Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office will no longer honor detainer requests from ICE after ACLU request

MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office has a new policy to stop enforcing ICE detainers.It is in response to an ACLU request earlier in August.Under the policy, deputies will no longer honor detainer requests from Immigration and Customs Enforcement to hold immigrants who would otherwise be released.The ACLU urged Milwaukee County and other local sheriffs to stop honoring detainers because they violate the constitutional rights of persons detained.ACLU Wisconsin issued this statement:

Chief Morales, city leaders to speak out Monday afternoon after 15 homicides in August

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee Police Chief Alfonso Morales has planned a Monday afternoon press conference after a rash of violence in the city that has included 15 homicides in the month of August -- 12 of them happening within 12 days time.According to a news release, Chief Morales will be joined by Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, local law enforcement and government officials to discuss "the department's public safety efforts within the past six months and outline shared goals for the department and its stakeholders."Below is a breakdown of the 15 homicides in Milwaukee in August:

Acting Sheriff Richard Schmidt says 'I'll be pursuing ministry once again' beginning in January

MILWAUKEE COUNTY -- After Earnell Lucas' primary victory in the race for Milwaukee County sheriff, Acting Sheriff Richard Schmidt said he intends to "fill out" the remaining four months of his term, and then return to ministry.In his concession speech, Schmidt said "as the people of Milwaukee County have become very aware, I'm also very involved in church work, and when these four months are done, I'll be out pursuing the ministry once again, and reaching folks with what I believe is most important, and that's the gospel of Christ," said Schmidt.
