Milwaukee police seek man, woman involved in shooting near 57th and Appleton

MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Police Department has asked for public assistance identifying and locating two suspects wanted or a reckless endangering safety incident that happened on Tuesday, June 9 on the city's north side.Police say Suspect 1 and a victim were involved in an argument near 57th and Appleton around 2:45 a.m. on Tuesday.

54-year-old shot and wounded on Milwaukee's north side, police say

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police are investigating a shooting that happened on the city's north side Tuesday afternoon.Authorities were called to the scene on Teutonia just south of Silver Spring around 3:40 p.m. The victim, a 54-year-old man, sustained non-life threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment.The shooting appears to be the result of a robbery, according to police.Police continue to seek an unknown suspect.

Man faces federal charge, accused of pointing laser at FBI, National Guard choppers during protests

MILWAUKEE -- A Milwaukee man is facing a federal charge after prosecutors say he pointed a laser pointer at FBI and Wisconsin National Guard helicopters on multiple occasions as the aicraft flew over Milwaukee to monitor protests in the wake of the officer-involved death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.Jeremiah Belen faces one count of aiming a laser pointer at an aircraft filed by the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin for alleged actions that occurred between May 31 and June 7 in Milwaukee.According to an affidavit, the first incident occurred on May 31 as FBI agents flew over Milwaukee and observed a green laser targeting their aircraft from the ground in the area bordered by North Avenue, Burleigh Street, N. 10th Street and N. 14th Street in Milwaukee.It happened again late on June 3/early on June 4 from the area near 1st Street and Chambers Street in Milwaukee, and the affidavit said the agents were able to capture the origin of the laser -- a home at 3001 N. 1st Street.It happened again on the evening of June 4, the affidavit said, from the area near 76th Street and Center Street, where protests were taking place.The agents reported the laser would hit the wing of their aircraft, or worse, the windshield -- illuminating the cockpit.

'Our officers are under siege:' Assistant MPD chief answers questions about tactics amid protests

MILWAUKEE -- From fires to shootings, and even a suspected Molotov cocktail being thrown at officers, Assistant Milwaukee Police Chief Michael Brunson said the measures taken by the Major Incident Response Team (MIRT) were needed to restore order on several occasions amid protests in Milwaukee following the death of George Floyd."Our officers are under siege in some of these situations," Brunson said. During march, petition circulated to cut MPD funding by 10%, invest in black communities

MILWAUKEE -- A march in Milwaukee Monday, June 8 was focused on changing the direction of the Milwaukee Police Department -- with demonstrators calling for more money to be invested in community programs.It was a long march -- about 4 miles in total, starting at Sherman Park and ending at Red Arrow Park.Through art, poetry and signs, the group urged city leaders to defund police and give the money back to black communities -- part of a movement called "Reclaim the 414." Sherman Park and Red Arrow Park were the locations of the fatal police shootings of Sylville Smith in August 2016 and Dontre Hamilton in April 2014.
