Sheriff: Union Grove mail carrier accused of stealing Menards rebate cards from 'multiple victims'

UNION GROVE -- Officials with the Racine County Sheriff's Office said a Union Grove mail carrier was arrested on mail fraud and identity theft charges, accused of stealing Menards rebate cards from multiple victims.Sheriff's officials said on May 6, they were contacted by a Union Grove resident who reported his Menards rebate card was stolen and used at the Mount Pleasant Menards.An investigation revealed he wasn't the only victim.Justicia Balogun of Union Grove, a mail carrier in the area, admitted to taking and spending the rebate cards, sheriff's officials said.She was arrested on nine counts of mail fraud and seven counts of identity theft.Sheriff's officials asked that anyone who may be missing Menards rebate cards check the status of the card, and if used without authorization, to please contact authorities.

Sheriff: Driver out on bond arrested after marijuana found in vehicle; 8-month-old child was passenger

RACINE -- A Milwaukee man out on bond for possession of THC was arrested during a traffic stop in Racine County on Sunday afternoon, June 2.Racine County sheriff's officials said the 23-year-old man was stopped for a traffic offense in Racine when a deputy detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.The driver admitted he was out on bond, and that there was marijuana in the vehicle.

UNION GROVE -- Charges have been filed against a Racine man accused of pointing a firearm at another man in an incident that happened on Tuesday, Feb. 5 on 13th Avenue near West Street in Union Grove.Sheriff's officials said they received a complaint about a suspicious person photographing a vehicle in the area.

Officials: Man bends door frame of squad in Caledonia traffic stop

CALEDONIA -- A traffic stop in Caledonia Friday night, May 31, resulted with a Racine County Sheriff squad being damaged.Officials say a vehicle was stopped on the I-94 northbound on-ramp from County Highway K, around 11:45 p.m. While investigating the driver for possibly operating under the influence, authorities say the passenger -- a 40-year-old Sheboygan man -- ignored deputies and walked to a dirt mound nearby the vehicle.The sheriff's office says when a deputy approached the man on the mound he became loud, argumentative, and combative.

'See if he's in there:' Driver arrested after reporting 'voices in the walls of his semi;' drugs recovered

RACINE COUNTY -- A semi driver was arrested after sheriff's officials said he called 911 to report he could hear "voices" in the walls of his semi Friday morning, May 24.According to the Racine County Sheriff's Office, just after 8 a.m. Friday, deputies responded to the northbound County Highway G exit ramp from I-94 -- where they spoke with the semi driver and initially thought he may be experiencing a mental health crisis.A search of his vehicle revealed open intoxicants, drugs and drug paraphernalia.

Prosecutors: Man admitted to shooting, killing dog 'because it bit him'

RACINE COUNTY -- A Waterford man is facing charges, accused of shooting and killing a dog after it bit him.Jay Hoppe, 51, faces one count of felony mistreatment of animals, use of a dangerous weapon, domestic abuse assessments, and one count of disorderly conduct, domestic abuse assessments.According to a criminal complaint, Hoppe choked and then shot the English Mastiff named Mack at his home on Washington Avenue in Rochester.

8.3 pounds of marijuana, 499 THC vape cartridges recovered when search warrant executed in Caledonia

CALEDONIA -- More than eight pounds of marijuana and nearly 500 THC vape cartridges were recovered when officials with the Racine County Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant in Caledonia Friday morning, May 17.The warrant was executed around 9:30 a.m. on Douglas Avenue near Johnson Avenue in Caledonia.Investigators recovered 8.3 pounds of marijuana (3,786 grams), 499 vape cartridges containing approximately one gram of THC each, a digital scale, heat sealer for plastic bags, packaging materials, drug paraphernalia and a Quest card listing to Goran Ivic.A news release from the Racine County Sheriff's Office said Ivic is a convicted felon from new Hampshire -- convicted for drug related crimes.Racine County Sheriff Christopher Schmaling in the release pointed out that the 8.3 pounds of marijuana would have a street value of $,3000 per pound for high-grade marijuana, totaling $24,900.
