Sheriff: Dump truck driver changed lanes, striking sedan, sending it into median barrier on I-41/94

RACINE COUNTY -- There were no injuries in a crash on I-41/94 northbound near Durand Avenue Monday, Aug. 19, which happened when the driver of a dump truck changed lanes and struck another vehicle.It happened around 4:30 p.m.Officials with the Racine County Sheriff's Office said a preliminary investigation revealed a Chrysler sedan was headed northbound in the far right lane, with a dump truck in the middle lane.The driver of the dump truck moved into the far right lane, still occupied by the Chrysler, striking the rear of the Chrysler.The impact sent the Chrysler across three lanes of traffic and into the concrete median barrier wall, which was pushed into the left lane of I-41/94 southbound.No other vehicles were struck when the barrier shifted.Again, no one was hurt.Several lanes were closed to traffic for approximately 30 minutes due to the crash, and the concrete median barrier was assessed for structural integrity, and pushed back into place.

Racine County sheriff: 81 speeders stopped in 3 days in construction zone on I-41/94

RACINE COUNTY -- Increased patrols along I-41/94 in Racine County Friday, Aug. 16 through Sunday, Aug. 18 resulted in deputies stopping a total of 81 speeders in the construction zone on I-41/94.According to a news release from the Racine County Sheriff's Office, this was aimed at increasing safety in the construction zone.

Drug bust: 28-year-old man found with a plethora of drugs, paraphernalia in Burlington

BURLINGTON -- A 28-year-old man was arrested after being found with various drugs and drug-related paraphernalia during a traffic stop on Saturday, Aug. 17.Just before 1 a.m.,  deputies in the Town of Burlington stopped a vehicle that was traveling at 73 miles per hour in a 55 miles per hour zone on State Highway 36 near State Highway142.While speaking with the driver, deputies noticed a case of beer behind the driver, and began a field interview with the individual.

BURLINGTON -- A Burlington man was arrested after firing gunshots into the ground Saturday, Aug. 17.According to Racine County sheriff's officials, a call came in just after 9:30 p.m., with the caller indicating a man left his house and fired a gun into the ground five times.

TOWN OF BURLINGTON -- The Racine County Sheriff's Office says a man was injured after a collision between a jet ski and fishing boat on Brown's Lake in the Town of Burlington on Monday, Aug. 12.Officials say they were dispatched to the lake shortly before 2 p.m. Monday for a report of a male, unconscious and in the water.

Man killed in motorcycle crash in Village of Raymond in Racine County

RACINE COUNTY -- A man was killed in a crash involving a motorcycle in Racine County Saturday, Aug. 10.Around 6:30 p.m., a call came in regarding a motorcycle in the southern curve of County Highway K/North Cape Street at 108th Street in the Village of Raymond.The operator was originally reported as conscious, but within minutes, lost consciousness.Racine County sheriff's deputies responded, rendered aid, and assisted with a landing zone for Flight for Life at the North Cape Elementary School.The patient succumbed to his injuries prior to being transported by Flight for Life.The cause of the crash was under investigation.

Racine woman arrested for OWI after crashing her BMW into Petro truck stop

VILLAGE OF YORKVILLE -- A Racine woman, 47, was arrested for OWI, second offense after sheriff's officials said she crashed her vehicle into a truck stop on Sunday evening, Aug. 4.According to the Racine County Sheriff's Office, around 5 p.m., a deputy on routine patrol was passing the Petro parking lot on Sylvania Avenue (off of I-94 and Highway 20) and spotted a BMW sedan parked over the sidewalk and through the exterior wall, into the commercial drivers' lounge area at the truck stop."I'm very shocked," said Dan Worzalla, customer. "Seeing the hole when we pulled up -- thought it was maybe a door being replaced or something."Multiple squads were called to the scene to assist, but it was determined there were no injuries.Sheriff's officials identified the driver in a news release as Frances Hastings.

'Bad history of accidents:' Neighbors voice concern after crash at Raymond intersection

RACINE COUNTY -- A fatal crash at a Town of Raymond intersection Monday night, July 29 caused concern among neighbors."I feel sorry for the people," said James Chervenka.First responders rushed to the scene of the two-vehicle crash shortly after 5:30 p.m. The collision claimed the life of a 61-year-old woman and sent another woman to the hospital via Flight for Life."This intersection has a bad history of accidents," said Chervenka.Those who've lived near Highway 45 and 7 Mile Road for decades said they're concerned with the intersection, which is a two-way stop.
