Gas leak on N. 30th Street leads MFD officials to evacuate some residents

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Crews are on the scene of a gas leak occurring in the 2800 block of N. 30th Street -- and some residents have been evacuated.Some living in the area loaded up on a city bus, and they've been taken to a temporary shelter.A We Energies spokesman says the gas leak occurred when Milwaukee Water Works officials hit a gas line.

We Energies: 2,000 people without power across southeastern Wisconsin after storms push through

SOUTHEASTERN WISCONSIN (WITI) -- A We Energies spokeswoman said 2,000 people were without power throughout southeastern Wisconsin after storms moved through on Tuesday evening, July 29th.Areas south of Milwaukee were hit the hardest by power outages.A Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued for Racine, Kenosha and Waukesha counties as these storms pushed through.A We Energies spokeswoman says 400 people were without power in Kenosha.Crews are working to restore power.

We Energies: 40 customers in West Allis affected by gas leak

WEST ALLIS (WITI) -- We Energies crews were on the scene of a gas leak that occurred near S. 81st Street and Grant Street in West Allis.It happened between 2:30 and 2:45 Thursday afternoon.A We Energies spokesman says a construction crew was working in the area when the gas leak began.We Energies crews were able to find the source of the leak.

Mylar balloon leads to power outage affecting 1,500 customers in West Milwaukee

WEST MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- We Energies officials were tending to a power outage that affected 1,500 people in West Milwaukee Tuesday evening, July 15th.A We Energies spokesman tells FOX6 News the power outage occurred just after 7:45 p.m. when a mylar balloon ran into a power line -- causing the circuit to short out and the wire to go down.The wire fell in an alley between 63rd Street and 64th Street and National Avenue.The borders of this outage were Mitchell Street to the north, Lincoln Avenue to the south, 44th Street to the east and 55th Street to the west.A We Energies spokesman says a power outage caused by a mylar balloon isn't unusual, but he says this type of outage usually happens in wide open areas where the balloons are released and end up drifting into power lines.We Energies crews were able to resolve this power outage by about 9:45 p.m.

Evacuated: Two office buildings cleared out Monday morning due to a gas leak

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Two office buildings had to be evacuated for a short time on Monday morning, July 14th due to a gas leak.The gas leak was reported around 9:00 a.m. Monday -- and occurred near 13th and Canal.A short time later, We Energies officials were able to cut off the gas -- and begin repairs.All of those evacuated were able to return to the buildings.We Energies officials say the gas leak was the result of a construction crew severing a gas line.No one was injured.

Milwaukee Fire Department responds to building fire, detects gas

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The Milwaukee Fire Department responded to a small fire in between two floors at a building on Historic Mitchell Street on Saturday, July 12th.The fire department says the fire was between the first and second floor of a two-story, multi-unit building.
