Bucks Foundation donates $1M to 15 organizations; "We're investing in the future of our youth"

MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Bucks Foundation announced on Wednesday, July 19th it will grant $1 million to 15 organizations across the Milwaukee area."We're investing in the future of our youth in the City of Milwaukee," said Bucks President Peter Feigin. "We've worked to develop our community in three keys areas: Youth education, youth health and wellness and community betterment."

Héctor Colón leaving Milwaukee County post to become president, CEO of Lutheran Social Services

County Board votes to override Co. Exec. Abele on raises, effectively slashing pay of 27 staffers

MILWAUKEE -- After a loss in court Thursday morning, June 1st, the Milwaukee County Board voted to override Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele, effectively slashing the pay of at least 27 staffers back to levels the board had previously approved.Abele gave at least $185,000 in raises to 27 county staffers, including four of his five top department heads.Hector Colon, director of the Department of Health and Human Services got a $54,000 raise.The County Board said the raises are illegal.

Abele says MCTS bus fare cards should be accepted on Milwaukee streetcar

MILWAUKEE – County Executive Chris Abele said Monday, March 20th that county bus passes should be accepted on the Milwaukee Streetcar but that the county should not be the operator of the rail service.Abele made the comments after County Board Chairman Theo Lipscomb pressed the him for the county’s position on the downtown streetcar during a Public Policy Forum discussion on the future of the Milwaukee County Transit System.“MCTS uses the M-Card system, people are familiar with it, and I think that’s something that would be relatively easy to adapt to the streetcar,” Abele said of the potential to use bus passes on the streetcar.Abele and Lipscomb split over the larger question of whether the county should seek to operate the streetcar, which would require the county to submit a bid with the City of Milwaukee.

Abele to keep fighting for $60 Milwaukee County wheel tax regardless of April 4 vote

MILWAUKEE -- County Executive Chris Abele said he would continue to push a $60 wheel tax in Milwaukee even if voters overwhelmingly reject it on the April 4th ballot.Abele said during a forum on Monday, March 20th that the increased vehicle registration fee was necessary to avoid service cuts and steep fare increases aboard Milwaukee County Transit System buses.
