Fishing license sales up 25% as inland sport fishing season opens

HAYWARD (AP) — The inland sport fishing season is now open.Governor Scott Walker kicked it off Saturday, May 2nd by dropping a line at the Chippewa Flowage in Sawyer County, east of Hayward.According to Walker's office, sportfishing generates $2.3 billion in economic benefits and supports 22,000 jobs annually in Wisconsin.Through Tuesday, nearly 411,000 anglers had purchased fishing licenses and nearly 94,000 had purchased trout stamps.Fishing license sales are up 25 percent and trout stamp sales are up 19 percent from the same time last year.

Public Policy Polling: Scott Walker 'well ahead' of other GOP presidential candidates in Iowa

IOWA (WITI) -- The latest Public Policy Polling Iowa poll shows Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker well ahead of the rest of the Republican field in Iowa with 23% voter support.That's compared with 13% for Marco Rubio, 12% for Jeb Bush, 10% each for Mike Huckabee and Rand Paul, 8% for Ted Cruz, 7% for Ben Carson, 5% for Chris Christie and 4% for Rick Perry.Walker has the highest favorability out of anyone in the field, with 59% of voters viewing him favorably to 13% who have an unfavorable view.The key to Walker's success is that he's winning both among voters who are most concerned about electability in the general election and among voters who are most concerned with having the most conservative candidate.

Developing: Assembly Republicans to pass school testing pause bill

MADISON (AP) — Republicans in control of the state Assembly say they will pass a bill next month that ensures results from the Badger Exam being taken by grade school students this spring will not be used against teachers or schools.Assembly Speaker Robin Vos and other Republicans said Thursday they will pass a bill similar to the one that already cleared the Senate that puts off publishing report cards for schools with results from the tests.The scores would also not be used as part of teacher evaluations.The scores would still be reported to comply with federal law, and parents could see how their children and schools fared.The Badger Exam has been beset with numerous implementation problems and Gov.
