MILWAUKEE -- A recall attempt of Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett has failed.Al Jansen, the south side man who initiated the long-shot effort, said Tuesday, September 5th that he got "nowhere close" to the necessary number of signatures to force a recall election."It became obvious that I overestimated the demand for changing the direction of the political leadership in Milwaukee," Jansen wrote in a statement he gave to the City of Milwaukee Election Commission and Barrett's office Tuesday morning. "With the successes of downtown growth, there seems to be a lack of appetite for change."

Sendik’s Fresh2GO opens on campus of Marquette University

Mayor Barrett says WI on the hook for nearly $700M after Gov. Walker rejected federal ACA funding

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett says the state is on the hook for nearly $700 million after Governor Scott Walker rejected federal funding under the Affordable Care Act.During a news conference Wednesday, August 9th, Mayor Barrett called on Governor Walker and state legislators to reverse their position and start accepting those federal dollars.He said this would protect taxpayer money and cover more people across the state."We're in this rare occurrence where fiscally it makes all the sense in the world for us to accept these dollars and from a healthcare perspective, it makes all the sense in the world for us to make sure these individuals are covered by BadgerCare," Barrett said.Republicans have said they're protecting taxpayers because the government cannot pay for promises it has already made.

Mayor Barrett: Streetcar construction on track to be complete by end of 2018

MILWAUKEE -- Mayor Tom Barrett walked with Milwaukee Streetcar construction workers on Wednesday, August 2nd as part of his Walk 100 Miles in 100 Days Challenge -- and talked briefly about the project's progress.The walk was in conjunction with Downtown Milwaukee BID #21’s “Downtown Employee Appreciation Week.”The walk followed parts of the Milwaukee Streetcar route by beginning at Burns Commons, heading west on East Ogden Avenue to North Jackson Street, and south on Jackson to end at 600 EAST Café.Mayor Barrett spoke with reporters and indicated the streetcar project is expected to be complete by the end of next year.

Bucks Foundation donates $1M to 15 organizations; "We're investing in the future of our youth"

Barrett recall organizer can't say how many signatures he's collected

MILWAUKEE -- The man who launched a long-shot bid to recall Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett couldn’t say how many signatures he’s collected so far because he isn’t keeping track as he goes.Allen Jansen told FOX6 News in a brief telephone interview that he has been out collecting signatures and “I do have some other people who are working with us.”Jansen’s group, “Save Our City, Milwaukeeans Can’t Wait,” must collect more than 51,000 signatures within a 60-day period.
