MILWAUKEE -- Turner Hall Ballroom will host a benefit concert for Hurricane Maria victims in Puerto Rico on Sunday, October 15th.The concert is being organized by the United Community Center and Latino Arts in partnership with the Pabst Theater Group, American Red Cross and other community partners.It's being called "Los Sonidos Unidos," and will feature the Latino Arts Strings Program musicians, members of De La Buena, Bahia, Bombazo with Pandanza Dancers, Cache as well as other local bands.Restaurant vendors including Cubanitas, Café el Sol, Antigua Latin Café, WWBIC Coffee will also join in this effort.According to a press release from concert organizers, the evening will showcase the strength and unity of Milwaukee and its solidarity with friends and family in Puerto Rico and Mexico.

Wisconsin Air National Guard sending mobile kitchen, 16 airmen to Puerto Rico

MADISON -- The Wisconsin Air National Guard's Disaster Relief Mobile Kitchen (DRMKT), along with 16 Airmen are headed to Puerto Rico to help in the relief efforts following Hurricanes Irma and Maria.According to a news release from the National Guard, both the 115th Fighter Wing, based in Madison, and the 128th Air Refueling Wing in Milwaukee sent personnel to operate mobile kitchen in response in Puerto Rico.The announcement was made Tuesday, October 3rd.The deployment is the latest in the state's ongoing response to hurricanes that have affected the United Stated over the past month.

Students from Puerto Rico attending Marquette University to host relief drive

MILWAUKEE -- There are about 50 students from Puerto Rico attending Marquette University and they've organized a relief drive to help the victims of Hurricane Maria.According to a news release, the drive will take place on Saturday, September 30th from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Alumni Memorial Union located at 1442 West Wisconsin Avenue.Organizers are asking people to bring batteries, flashlights, bottled water, canned food, medicine, first aid kits, personal hygiene items, mosquito repellent, towels, battery powered fans, cleaning supplies, feminine care, garbage bags, toilet paper and blankets.In addition, Marquette has invited students from Puerto Rico and the Caribbean to a solidarity dinner Saturday night, Sept. 30th.The news release says in the wake of Hurricane Maria, Marquette’s Campus Ministry sent an email to students from Puerto Rico and the Caribbean offering support and prayers and expressing concern for their well-being.
