Happy birthday: TWIN baby tamarins, born at the Racine Zoo, turn ONE!

RACINE -- TWIN baby tamarins, born at the Racine Zoo, turned ONE on Tuesday, April 18th!Avril and Francois weighed in at 1.4 and 1.7 ounces each at birth.Emperor tamarins are primates known for their small size and signature long, white mustaches.Elizabeth Heidorn, executive director of the Racine Zoo said the following in a news release after their birth:

Search warrant uncovers heroin, crack cocaine inside Racine home; 24-year-old man facing felony charges

RACINE COUNTY -- A 24-year-old Racine man is facing numerous felony drug charges after the Racine County Sheriff's Office Metro Drug Unit and the City of Racine Special Investigative Unit served a search warrant in a home near 9th Avenue and South Street.The search warrant was executed around 9:30 a.m. Monday, March 13th.According to Racine officials, located during the search was:

Racine, Pleasant Prairie snow emergencies in effect through early Wednesday

RACINE -- Due to the significant snowfall Tuesday, March 14th, the Department of Public Works has declared a snow emergency for the City of Racine beginning at 6:00 p.m. through 6:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 15th.The snow emergency means you are not allowed to park on either side of the streets -- and all cars must be parked on the odd side of all local streets beginning at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday.Parking restrictions during this time will allow crews to remove as much snow as possible from streets before the start of the morning commute.

Racine Zoo welcomes Naka, an Amur tiger who's lived in New York, Connecticut

RACINE -- Officials at the Racine Zoo are welcoming Naka, an Amur tiger!According to a statement from the Racine Zoo, Naka was born on June 7th, 2004 at the Rosemond Gifford Zoo in Syracuse, New York.She was later moved to the Beardsley Zoo located in Connecticut in 2009.She arrived in Racine in December!Zoo officials said Naka weighs around 260 pounds and consumes 10 pounds of meat per day.

RACINE -- Besides the snowblowing and shoveling that came along with our first significant snowfall of the season on Saturday, December 10th through Sunday, December 11th -- there was some looking to get out and enjoy it!After a warm November, the long fall, beginning on Saturday night and continuing for more than 24 hours, was wiped away by more than six inches of snow in Racine!
