Officials: Standoff with 80-year-old intoxicated man ends peacefully in Hartford
HARTFORD -- A standoff with an intoxicated man in Hartford shut down surrounding streets for hours on Sunday, June 30.A family member at the residence called the Washington County Sheriff's Office around 2:15 p.m.Officials say at one point, the 80-year-old intoxicated man fired a gun into the ceiling.Family retreated to the lower level of the residence before the tactical team was able to get them out safely.PHOTO GALLERYOfficers then negotiated with the elderly man and he was taken into custody around 4:30 p.m. He was checked out for medical purposes.Charges of reckless use of a firearm and reckless use of a dangerous weapon will be referred to the district attorney.Highway 60 was shut down for about two hours as officials responded to the scene.

WEST BEND -- A 16-year-old boy was treated and released from the hospital after he was struck by a vehicle in West Bend Wednesday, June 19.It happened just after 7 a.m. at the intersection of East Washington Street and North Street.Police said the 16-year-old boy was riding his bicycle eastbound on the sidewalk on East Washington Street when he entered the crosswalk at North Street.

GERMANTOWN -- A 50-year-old motorcyclist was taken to the hospital via Flight for Life after a crash involving a deer early Thursday, June 6in Germantown.It happened around 4:15 a.m. on Highway 145 near Fond du Lac Avenue.According to police, a driver following the motorcycle saw sparks in the roadway and came upon the unconscious 50-year-old man and the deer.

WASHINGTON COUNTY -- A 36-year-old Redgranite man accused of leading law enforcement on a pursuit through Washington County was sentenced to prison Wednesday, May 22.Nathan Reynolds in April pleaded guilty to two charges -- resisting/failing to stop and possession of narcotic drugs.In court Wednesday, Reynolds was sentenced to serve nine months in jail on the first conviction, and 18 months in prison and two years' extended supervision on the second conviction -- to be served concurrently.Sheriff's officials said he overdosed while he was sitting in the back of a squad car on Dec. 16, 2018.
Kitten recovering after being encased in spray foam, left in garbage can
HILLSBORO, Ore. — An 8-week-old kitten was recovering after he was found trapped in a garbage can, encased in spray foam.According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, the discovery was made on May 3.A garbage collector was using the hydraulic arm on the truck to empty out the garbage can and noticed something was stuck, so he went to look and saw the kitten hanging upside down."Upon further inspection, he noticed a small cat, encased in spray foam, hanging upside down from its back legs," according to sheriff's office news release. "The driver knew the cat was still alive because he could hear it whining."He then brought the garbage can back to the disposal facility where staff were able to free the kitten.The kitten was in the care of a veterinarian at Washington County Animal Services’ Bonnie L.
