MILWAUKEE - The coldest air of the season is expected Sunday morning, with wind chill values plummeting to near -30 degrees between 3 a.m. and 9 a.m. Feb. 7.
The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory for the entire area, with wind chill warnings for some parts of Wisconsin and Illinois. The advisory starts at 9 p.m. Saturday night, Feb. 6, and ends Sunday at noon.
Once wind chills fall below -18 degrees, frostbite is possible if your skin is left exposed to the cold for more than 30 minutes. It is important in temperatures this cold to bundle up, and not expose any skin to the cold if you have to be outside for a longer period of time.
Frostbite will be possible from midnight through 10 a.m. Sunday, as wind chills are expected to be lower than -18 degrees during that time. However, conditions Sunday afternoon should improve, with wind chills between -5 and -15.
Listed above, are some helpful tips during this cold spell. Be sure to limit travel and exposure to the cold, check on kids, the elderly, and pets, as well as your car. Also, check on water pipes around your home that could be prone to freezing.
Your pets may also have some intolerance to the cold weather, so above are some signs to watch for while they are outside. Stay safe, and warm!
