Wisconsin winter storm Tuesday; what you need to know

A winter storm warning continues through 3 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10 for all of southeast Wisconsin. One last wave of snow will be possible through midnight, Jan. 9 as the northwest section of the system heads east.

Tuesday morning started as rain along Lake Michigan due to warm lake temperatures in the low 40s, but changed quickly to a heavy, wet snow in the afternoon. The lakeshore in Racine and Kenosha counties stayed as rain for the majority of the event. Most inland communities picked up several inches of slushy, heavy snow.

There were numerous accidents on roadways and some power outages.

Tuesday night breakdown

Snow will wind down Tuesday night but still impact road conditions. Expect slushy and slippery travel, along with low visibility due to strong wind. Snow will end after midnight. Storm totals by Wednesday morning will likely range from 4-8 inches of snow inland – and 1-4 inches of snow lakeside. Lower totals along the lake are due to the easterly wind this morning bringing warmer air in off of the lake.
