Contact 6 helped consumers save $28,000 in November 2024

People say the FOX6 consumer segment helped them save $28,000 in November.

She didn’t have a medical emergency, but a Wauwatosa woman got an emergency room bill anyway. She spent months telling the hospital they’d billed the wrong person.

Barb Watry has a pile of bills from a hospital that she’s never been to. The first bill came in July.

"I’m going, ‘This doesn’t seem right,’" said Watry. "The first thing I did was call this billing company."

Watry said she then called the hospital system and was told they’d "look into it"

"I just let it go. A month later, I got the exact same bill again," said Watry.

After getting the same emergency care bill four times and speaking with hospital billing repeatedly, Watry filled out an online complaint form with Contact 6.

Within hours of Contact 6 reaching out on her behalf, Watry said the hospital called and put her bill on hold. Within 24 hours, she said the hospital had tracked down the correct patient.

Watry suspects she and the actual patient have similar names. She no longer owes the bills, including another radiology bill that arrived later on.

Working behind the scenes, the Contact 6 associate producer, Annette, helped a Milwaukee woman get an x-box for her grandson. She said the store sold her a box filled with bricks and then refused to refund her $500.

Contact 6 also helped a Milwaukee woman get a $480.40 refund for a canceled flight. She said her original refund went to her booking website as credit without her knowledge and had expired.
