Milwaukee Christmas Day shooting; child shot, neighbors want justice

The Milwaukee Police Department is continuing to look for who shot and injured a 6-year-old on Christmas morning, Wednesday, Dec. 25.

It happened on the city's northwest side near 35th and Kaul. And while police are looking for a suspect, neighbors are looking for justice.

Richard King, who lives only a few steps away, said he heard the gunshots ring out that morning.

"I was talking my dogs out, we do an early morning relief break," King said."My cane corso heard it, and he ran to the alley, and we saw a large police presence blocking on 35th and Kaul."

At the time, King said he didn't know what happened.

"Later on that day we found out," he said. "Everybody’s got issues. But, if we could just make Milwaukee a lot more talkative place, on the positive side, I think that would help too."

Milwaukee police are investigating different shootings that occurred on Wednesday, Dec. 25, that left a child injured and two teenagers dead.

And now, he along with other neighbors, are simply wondering why.

"Individuals should be able to go outside, especially on Christmas, go outside and play out with their new toys and things like that and not have to be involved," neighbor Sheria Dew said. "It’s a sad reality. My heart goes out to the family and the people affected."

Police are still looking to find and arrest the person who pulled the trigger.

"Really, the only way that we can keep the streets safe is people watching out for each other, calling the police," Dew said.
