There is an urgent search for the driver who hit and killed a 70-year-old Milwaukee woman before taking off. The victim's family gathered on Monday, Jan. 6 for a vigil to remember the life of Beverly Fair – and to call for justice.

Family members say Fair was a small woman with a big heart and a big smile. She was a passenger in a car that was struck at 34th and Lloyd on Saturday evening, Jan. 4. Fair died from her injuries a while later.

FOX6 News secured surveillance from 7:45 p.m. Saturday – you can see a portion of the crash. It was so violent, car parts went onto a nearby porch.

A new Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's report says Fair was the passenger of an SUV driven by her grandson. They were leaving a loved one's house – their vehicle was traveling westbound on Lloyd.

"She meant the world to me. We had a bond like no other," said Jordan Fair of his grandmother. "She was the type of person that can connect with anybody."

The report says a speeding silver car slammed into them at the intersection with N. 34th Street. The car was going between 60 mph and 80 mph. The report says the car had Minnesota plates that were not listed to the car. The driver got out and ran off.

"I was awake the entire time. The car was spinning," Jordan Fair said. "All the windows were busted and there wasn't a mark on my grandmother’s body."

Beverly Fair died as a result of the crash. Her grandson managed to survive.

Fair was the first lady of her Milwaukee church. Her family said she will be missed.

"I forgive the driver. We’re all God’s children," Jordan Fair said. "We all make mistakes, some people go down different routes."
