Milwaukee police chase tied to homicide investigation; 2 arrested

A Milwaukee police chase tied to a homicide investigation ended with a crash on Monday night, Dec. 23. Two people were ultimately taken into custody.

Police were first called to a shooting near 38th and Nash around 1:35 p.m. Two people died. The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office identified the victims as 36-year-old Rodney Walls and 24-year-old Deontay Long.

Police chase

The chase started on Interstate 94 near Grange Avenue around 8:10 p.m. Officers spotted a vehicle wanted in connection to the homicide that happened earlier on the city's north side.

The driver pulled over and got out, police said, but the passenger then got into the driver's seat and took off – leading the officer on a pursuit. It continued until the vehicle lost control and crashed into a guardrail on I-94 near 16th Street, just west of the Marquette Interchange.

The new driver – a 27-year-old man – tried to run but was soon arrested in connection to both the chase and the homicide.

The driver who initially pulled over, also a 27-year-old man, was also arrested. That person was also taken to a hospital.

The district attorney's office will review criminal charges.
