Marquette University opens Next Step Clinic to address Milwaukee mental health needs

MILWAUKEE -- Next Step Clinic — the winner of Marquette University’s first-ever “President’s Challenge” — is now open.The clinic, housed alongside Next Door Foundation Inc., and operating as a satellite of Mental Health America of Wisconsin, is meant to address the mental health and developmental needs of Milwaukee’s underserved children and families.This year, the clinic will roll out family navigation and developmental assessment services; trauma-focused therapies for children and families will begin in 2020.According to a press release, Next Step Clinic was declared the winner of the inaugural challenge in January.

Marquette University doctoral student from Bangladesh missing since Oct. 18

MILWAUKEE -- Marquette University officials confirmed on Tuesday, Oct. 22 a missing person's report regarding a doctoral student from Bangladesh.University officials said in a statement the Marquette University Police Department was investigating the matter and found no evidence to suggest that suspicious circumstances or foul play were involved."As a university community, we offer hope for the family and we pray that the individual is found healthy and safe," MU officials added in the statement.Officials with MSA Marquette, "a support group for Muslim students and an outreach group for non-Muslim students studying at Marquette University," said Rakib Rahman has been missing since Oct. 18 around 2 p.m.The Marquette Wire reported Rahman was last seen near 17th Street and State Street, close to the area of his residence.Anyone with information was asked to please contact Marquette University police.

MADISON — The Wisconsin Senate approved a bill Tuesday, Oct. 8 that would force the state, municipalities, and universities to continue paying health insurance premiums for immediate survivors of police officers and emergency medical workers killed in the line of duty.The bill would require the state, municipalities, the University of Wisconsin System and Marquette University to cover premiums for slain officers and medical workers' spouses and children if the entity paid such premiums while the officer or worker was employed.Coverage would last until spouses turn 65 and children turn 26.
