"It is affecting our life:" UWM students, faculty protest Pres. Trump's executive order on immigration

MILWAUKEE -- UW-Milwaukee students and faculty members joined dozens at universities across the country in protest Thursday, February 9th.A crowd turned out in Spaights Plaza on the UWM campus, calling themselves "Academics United."It was a protest against President Donald Trump's executive order on immigration.Those with a number of student organizations said they feel the travel restrictions are directly affecting their education.

UW-Milwaukee Panthers fall to Illinois-Chicago, 71-57

CHICAGO — Tai Odiase scored 20 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and swatted away six shots as Illinois-Chicago defeated Milwaukee 71-57 on Tuesday night, January 17th -- leading from start to finish.Odiase pulled down an offensive rebound and went back up for a lay-in to start the scoring with less than a minute gone, and later dunked after grabbing another offensive board.

Stull's 18 points lead Milwaukee past Northern Kentucky, 68-58

MILWAUKEE — Brock Stull scored 18 points and Milwaukee, playing at home for the first time in three weeks, put Northern Kentucky away in the second half to post a 68-58 Horizon League victory Thursday night.Stull hit 7 of 10 shots from the field, including 3 of 5 from long range, and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Panthers, who started the season playing 12 of their first 16 games on the road.The teams played to a 30-30 draw at intermission, and the game was tied at 39-39 with under 15 minutes left.

MU, UWM men's basketball teams could play each other again; it hasn't happened since 2011

MILWAUKEE -- Marquette University's and UW-Milwaukee's men's basketball teams could start playing each other again.Representatives from both of Milwaukee's Division I programs are discussing how to make that happen.UWM Athletic Director Amanda Braun said there's a good chance the teams will play in the near future.The last time the Golden Eagles and Panthers men's teams played was in December of 2011.CLICK HERE for more on this story via the Milwaukee Business Journal.

UWM professor awarded "MacArthur Genius Grant," MacArthur Foundation's highest honor

MILWAUKEE -- A University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee professor has been awarded the "MacArthur Genius Grant" for work engaging the community in performance arts.This is the MacArthur Foundation's highest honor, and theater professor Anne Basting is the first UWM faculty member to earn it.She will receive $625,000 to spend on any project she wants.The bulk of Basting's work has been about transforming the way we see aging.
