Coast Guard responds for boat suffering dead battery on Lake Michigan near Port Washington

MILWAUKEE -- The Coast Guard on Monday, August 1st responded to a disabled boat on Lake Michigan near Port Washington.The call for this incident came in shortly before 6:00 p.m. -- after the boat sent a 'mayday' transmission.No one responded when Coast Guard officials tried to make contact with the boat, and an hour later, another 'mayday' transmission came in.Communication was then established between the boat and the Coast Guard.No one was hurt, and no one ended up being in distress.Officials with the Port Washington Fire Department towed the boat to shore.

“We are concerned:" Racine Co. executive issues "declaration of emergency" due to severe erosion

CALEDONIA/MOUNT PLEASANT -- Racine County Executive Jonathan Delagrave on Thursday, May 26th issued a "declaration of emergency" in Racine County due to severe bluff erosion happening along Lake Michigan in Caledonia and Mount Pleasant.According to Delagrave, because of the increase in water levels on Lake Michigan, and the combination of wave action and unstable bluffs, the erosion of the bluffs has accelerated at an unprecedented rate.“We are concerned the homes as well as public utilities and infrastructure will fall victim to Lake Michigan in coming days and weeks.

Police: Good Samaritans jump into action, rescue four people after boat capsized on Lake Michigan

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police say four people were rescued by Good Samaritans Sunday morning, May 15th when their boat began to take on water on Lake Michigan.Police were alerted to a call of a capsized boat on Lake Michigan around 7:45 a.m.Two men and two juvenile females went into the water after their boat capsized.Each boater was rescued by other boaters in the area.No one was hurt.

High winds draw surfers, photographers to Milwaukee's Lakefront

MILWAUKEE -- The wind wasn't as strong on Wednesday, February 24th as it was on Friday, February 19th, when a Wind Warning was in effect -- but still, a Wind Advisory was issued by the National Weather Service for Milwaukee and Ozaukee counties on Wednesday, as wind gusts in the 40 mile-per-hour range were expected.The wind was racing off of Lake Michigan on Wednesday -- causing some to stop and enjoy an otherwise cold and cloudy day.

High winds lead to high waves: Winter storm leaves behind damage along lakefront in Kenosha

KENOSHA -- A winter storm brought snow, sleet, freezing rain and high winds on Monday, December 28th, and left some damage behind along the lakefront in Kenosha.Kenosha Department of Public Works officials confirmed for FOX6 News they were working on Tuesday to clean up the mess near the Southport Marina.There's no word at this point as to a damage estimate.The photos you'll see below were taken by Miguel Castro.
