Milwaukee County deputy sheriff under federal investigation

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke ordered a deputy sheriff be placed on administrative duty after learning the deputy is under federal investigation.According to a new release issued on Saturday, February 6th, the deputy failed to advise the Sheriff’s Office of the pending investigation for more than two years.The deputy is not being named at this time because no charge has yet been issued -- and it is still under investigation.Monitor FOX6 News and FOX6Now.com for updates on this developing story.

27 men and women part of first class of Milwaukee Co. sheriff's deputies to graduate since 2003

MILWAUKEE COUNTY -- Tuesday, January 12th was graduation day for Milwaukee County's newest sheriff's deputies.Twenty-seven men and women were part of the first class to graduate since 2003.The ceremony took place at the War Memorial Center on Lincoln Memorial Drive.The recruits had to complete 760 hours of training to earn their badges."It's really about service.

Milwaukee Co. Sheriff's Office handling investigation into shooting that may have happened on freeway

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police are investigating a shooting that occurred late Monday night, January 11th.Police received a call about a shooting victim at the intersection of Canal Street and Selig Drive at 11:00 p.m.When officers arrived on scene, it was determined that the male victim was shot somewhere north of National Avenue on what becomes Miller Park Way.It's unclear how he got to the intersection of Canal Street and Selig Drive.The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office is handling the investigation because this shooting may have happened on the freeway.At this time, is unknown what led up to the shooting or if any suspects are in custody.Monitor FOX6 News and FOX6Now.com for updates on this developing story.

Two people taken to the hospital after single vehicle rollover crash in Mitchell Interchange

MILWAUKEE -- Officials with the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office say two people were taken to the hospital following a rollover crash involving one vehicle that happened in the Mitchell Interchange.It happened shortly before 6:00 p.m.Sheriff's officials say a vehicle carrying two people rolled onto its roof.Both of the vehicle's occupants were taken to the hospital.

Milwaukee County Sheriff's officials release results of DUI initiative over NYE holiday weekend

Sheriff's Office: 31-year-old Milwaukee woman arrested, accused of driving the wrong way on 45

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee County sheriff's officials say a wrong-way driver was arrested early on Christmas Eve morning.It was around 2:15 a.m. on Thursday, December 24th when deputies responded to 911 calls regarding a wrong-way driver traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of US-45 from Appleton Avenue.A deputy and Wisconsin State Patrol trooper were able to stop the vehicle at Mayfair Road.The total distance traveled was about 5.5 miles, according to sheriff's officials.The 31-year-old Milwaukee woman who was driving the vehicle told officials she had consumed one-and-a-half drinks at a friend's home.She refused to submit to a preliminary breath test, and was taken to Froedtert Hospital for a blood draw.A search warrant for that blood draw was obtained from a judge after the woman also refused the blood draw.She now faces charges of DUI - first offense, driving the wrong way on a divided highway, second degree recklessly endangering safety, and operating while suspended.

Wet, slippery roads: Sheriff's deputies respond to dozens of crashes Sunday

MILWAUKEE COUNTY -- Fog and rain may have contributed to dozens of crashes on the Milwaukee County freeway system Sunday, December 13th.Milwaukee County Sheriff’s officials say deputies were called out to 30 crashes involving property damage only, 16 crashes involving injury and seven disabled vehicles Sunday.The majority of those crashes occurred in the Plainfield Curve and the Stadium Interchange.Milwaukee County Sheriff's officials tell FOX6 News a squad car was struck Sunday morning in the Mitchell Interchange -- setting off a chain-reaction crash.It happened around 6:30 a.m.We're told a squad was on scene backing up another deputy on scene in a separate squad -- as they worked a crash involving property damage.A pickup truck hauling a fifth wheel trailer with another truck on the bed of that trailer struck one of the squads.The truck subsequently struck the other squad at the scene -- pushing that squad into the vehicle that was involved in the initial crash.One deputy had to be extricated from a squad, and that deputy was taken to Froedtert Hospital for treatment of what are believed to be non life-threatening injuries.Milwaukee police tell FOX6 News the driver of the pickup truck was arrested, and will be facing citations.

Sheriff's Office: One person in custody after pursuit on city's south side

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee County Sheriff's officials say a suspect was taken into custody following a short pursuit that took place on Milwaukee's south side on Monday afternoon, December 7th.The pursuit began around 4:15 p.m., when a deputy on patrol came up behind a vehicle near S. 6th Street and Mitchell Street in Milwaukee.The deputy ran the vehicle’s plates, and found out the vehicle was listed as stolen and wanted in reference to an armed robbery in the city of Milwaukee.While waiting for backup from deputies or MPD, the suspect vehicle took off, ran a red light, and then crashed into a light pole near S. 2nd Street and Orchard Street.The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle got out and fled on foot, and that suspect was pursued by the deputy on foot.That deputy lost sight of the suspect, but MPD officers and sheriff’s deputies flooded the area and found the suspect lying down and hiding in a backyard near S. 3rd Street, about a block away from the crash.The suspect was arrested by MPD, and they also took custody of the vehicle to process it for evidence.No injuries were reported.The pursuit of the vehicle lasted about five to seven blocks.Once Milwaukee police are through with their portion of the investigation, the Sheriff’s Office will pursue charges of fleeing an officer.

Sheriff's Office: Piles of clay pigeons, shotgun shell casings found near Milwaukee Art Museum

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee County Sheriff's officials tell FOX6 News piles of shotgun shell casings were discovered near the Milwaukee Art Museum on Saturday, December 5th.Sheriff's officials say around 11:00 a.m., deputies responded to the area near the Calatrava after a citizen observed two men dumping piles of debris there.Deputies located 18 separate piles.The debris consisted of clay pigeons and inert plastic shotgun shell casings.Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office detectives are now investigating.Monitor FOX6 News and FOX6Now.com for updates on this developing story.
