MILWAUKEE -- Joel Streicher, a Milwaukee County sheriff's deputy facing a charge of homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle in connection with a January crash that killed a Milwaukee Public Schools lobbyist, waived his preliminary hearing, was bound over for trial and entered a plea of not guilty on Friday, May 29.47-year-old Ceasar Stinson was the victim of a Jan. 25 crash near 10th Street and State Street while Streicher was on duty, prosecutors said.According to the complaint filed on May 18, Streicher told investigators he "looked away from the road to look at his squad computer," and indicated it "was possible he had driven through a red light."Streicher, who indicated he had been a deputy since 1996, told investigators he "did not have a memory of seeing any of the traffic signals or entering the intersection," and his "next memory was the crash." He said he never saw the victim's vehicle.The complaint said the video showed the lights were red for 11 seconds prior to the crash.

Sheriff: Milwaukee man fired handgun toward woman, children at Moody Park

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee County sheriff's officials on Tuesday evening, May 26 arrested a man accused of firing a handgun in the direction of a woman and several children.It happened just before 5 p.m. at the park on Burleigh Street.Sheriff's officials said at the park, witnesses indicated after firing, the man dropped the gun and fled.

Sheriff: 17-year-old boy in critical condition after shooting on basketball court at Dineen Park

On-ramp to I-41 NB from Appleton Avenue closed Friday morning after report of 'shots fired'

MILWAUKEE -- The on-ramp to northbound I-41/US 45 from Appleton Avenue was temporarily closed Friday morning, May 15 following reports of "shots fired."Deputies with the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene around 3 a.m. Upon arrival, a search of the on-ramp was conducted and shell casings were recovered.A canvass of the residential area, located adjacent to the freeway, was conducted and there were no reports of any citizens being injured.The sheriff's offices says local hospitals were also contacted and there were no reports of any recent gun shot victims.The on-ramp was closed from approximately 3:05 a.m. to 5:49 a.m.There are no suspects or victims at this time.This is an ongoing investigation and the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division is handling the investigation.

MCSO: Stadium interchange partially closed due to semi rollover

MILWAUKEE -- A portion of the stadium interchange was closed Saturday, May 9 due to a roll-over semi-truck incident, the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office said.The truck rolled over Saturday afternoon before 4 p.m. Authorities announced the closure of the ramp from westbound I-94 to northbound WIS-175.Officials did not say what caused the semi to roll over, and no other vehicles appeared to be involved.

MCSO: Driver arrested for OWI after crash on SB I-43 near Wells

MILWAUKEE -- Deputies with the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office were called to a one-car crash on southbound I-43 near Wells Saturday just before noon.Authorities say the car crashed into the wall of the interstate and the driver complained of minor injuries but refused medical treatment.The driver showed signs of impairment, officials said, and was arrested for operating while intoxicated - second offense, and taken to the hospital.The two right lanes of traffic were closed for approximately 40 minutes as a result of the crash.
