Racine takes part in Peace Officers Memorial Day: "Never know if you're going to make it home"

RACINE -- On a quiet morning in Racine's Hantschel Park, bagpipes cut through the air as part of a nationwide recognition of Peace Officers Memorial Day.“We leave our families every day and you just never know if you’re going to make it home or not, so it’s just for those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice, in support of the community," said Racine Police Chief Art Howell.The annual ceremony honors law enforcement professionals that gave their lives in the line of duty, like the 17 police officers or sheriff’s deputies from Racine County.

Tanker rollover shuts down portion of northbound I-94 in Racine County

RACINE COUNTY -- All lanes are temporarily blocked on northbound I-94 at County K on Wednesday, March 8th due to a tanker rollover -- hours after the wreck first happened.The wreck happened shortly after 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday -- and has slowed traffic for hours while crews work to clear the scene of the rolled over truck and fuel that spilled on the scene.PHOTO GALLERYAs of about 1:00 p.m., traffic was backed up in excess of three miles approaching the scene.No additional details have been released -- including the cause of the crash or if any injuries were sustained.

Men arrested after search warrant executed in Racine; cocaine, pot, pills, guns, money found

RACINE -- Two men were arrested Tuesday, February 21st when agents with the Racine County Metro Drug Unit executed a search warrant at a home on Cherry Street near Walnut Street.The search warrant was executed around 6:00 a.m. SWAT and K-9 officers were also involved.According to the Racine County Sheriff's Office, information had been developed that the suspects at this residence were involved in the sale of cocaine and marijuana.Located during the search of the residence was 8.6 grams of cocaine, 733.9 grams of marijuana, various pill-type medications, drug paraphernalia, a loaded handgun, a shotgun, numerous cell phones and money.There was also another family with three young children residing at the home.
