Milwaukee Co. Board considers $1M health care education plan

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The new national Health Care Law takes full effect in two weeks but one Milwaukee County Board Chairwoman believes the public needs further education to understand the plan.Chairwoman Marina Dimitrijevic has proposed spending more than $1 million on education efforts including increasing funding for marketing information, training workers, and creating a directory of services related to the Health Care Law."We're about to have the biggest change in health care that this country has ever seen and we need to do all we can in Milwaukee County to ensure people have the right information so they can get health care access," said Dimitrijevic.Dimitrijevic wants to use a portion of the county's nearly $6 million budget surplus to make sure people have information about the new health care plans and how to sign up for them.

Milwaukee County Courthouse now fully reopened

MILWAUKEE (WITI) --  Two-and-a-half weeks after a fire destroyed the main electrical infrastructure of the Milwaukee County Courthouse, the building fully reopened on Wednesday, July 24th."I'm here because I've got something to celebrate," said Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele. "The courthouse is open and we've got an extraordinary group of people behind me who helped make that happen."Abele was joined by several others on Wednesday afternoon, July 24th, to express gratitude for the cooperation that enabled the quick turnaround of the courthouse.It's been two-and-a-half weeks to get to this point -- a fully reopened Milwaukee County Courthouse -- after a fire destroyed the main electrical infrastructure."Our commitment has always been on public safety.

County Board to take up four Abele vetoes during meeting Wed.

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele late Tuesday, July 9th issued four vetoes regarding items the Milwaukee County Board has passed.Abele issued vetoes regarding the Board's firing of its corporation counsel, and the County Board's efforts to let Chairwoman Marina Dimitrijevic continue with her lawsuit against the state Legislature over the size and scope of the County Board.The County Board voted on June 20th to fire its corporation counsel, Kimberly Walker, saying the attorney just wasn't working out.The Board needed 12 votes to remove Walker from her position, and the final vote was 13-5.County Executive Abele says he has seen nothing that would justify Walker’s firing.
