Report: Repair options for the Mitchell Park Domes could cost from $14 million - $64 million

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele released a report on Friday, December 2nd which confirms initial cost estimates for a variety of repair options at the Domes.The report was prepared by GRAEF Consulting, the independent engineering firm contracted by Milwaukee County to manage the community engagement process for the Domes.GRAEF’s report confirms initial estimates from 2008 that it could cost between $50 million and $70 million to totally repair or replace the Domes on their existing foundation.

County Board overrides Abele's veto reducing his office's budget to 2011 levels

MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee County Board on Monday, November 14th over-rode a veto by Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele.Abele tried to veto a provision in the budget that would reduce his office's budget to 2011 levels.The County Board voted 12-5 to override that veto.In a statement, Milwaukee County Board Chairman Theo Lipscomb said Abele should "keep his promise and help shoulder the burden of Milwaukee County's budget gap."

Wheel tax: Milwaukee County Board votes in favor of new $30 vehicle registration fee

MILWAUKEE COUNTY -- The Milwaukee County Board adopted on Monday, November 7th an amendment that would create a new $30 vehicle registration fee for county residents.The idea of a new wheel tax was brought up by Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele who proposed a $60 vehicle registration fee be included as part of the county's 2017 budget plan.

Milwaukee County Board okays plan to increase minimum wage to $15 by 2022

MILWAUKEE COUNTY -- The Milwaukee County Board on Thursday, November 3rd voted 12-6 in favor of increasing the minimum wage within the county to $15 by 2022.Milwaukee County Supervisor Marcelia Nicholson’s proposed change to Chapter 111 of the Milwaukee County Code of General Ordinances would raise the living wage to $12.25 on January 1, 2017, then to $13 on January 1, 2018, and increase it by $.50 every year until it reaches $15 on January 1, 2022."The ‘Fight for 15’ movement is so powerful that even Chris Abele, who vetoed our living wage ordinance in 2014, has joined us," Supervisor Nicholson said on Thursday.Monitor FOX6 News and FOX6Now.com for updates on this developing story.  

Milwaukee County Board chairman calls for referendum on proposed $60/year "wheel tax"

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee County Board Chairman Theo Lipscomb is calling for an advisory referendum on a proposed $60 wheel tax that is part of Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele's 2017 budget.Lipscomb said in a statement after hearing from residents on the wheel tax during a public hearing on the proposed budget on Monday, October 31st, he wants a referendum "to allow all Milwaukee County voters an opportunity to have their voices heard on the issue."
