Governor Walker signs bill that calls for regulations on unarmed combat sports

MILWAUKEE -- Governor Scott Walker on Thursday, March 24th signed a bill into law that calls for regulations on unarmed combat sports, like kickboxing.Fighters are required to have health insurance, judges and referees must be licensed, and doctors must be present at every match.The bill was drafted following the 2014 death of Dennis Munson Jr.He died after he was injured in an unregulated kickboxing match in Milwaukee.Below is a statement from the Governor's Office on this bill signing:

Mayor Barrett asks Scott Walker to veto bill that could lead to more "zombie homes"

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett is asking Governor Scott Walker to veto a bill that he fears would create more so-called "zombie houses.""Zombie houses" are homes abandoned by their owners, but unwanted by the banks.Currently, banks are forced to put a "zombie house" up for sale five weeks after the home is found to be abandoned.A new bill would move the deadline back to 12 months, and it has already made it through the Assembly and the Senate.Barrett says it would mean more empty houses in Milwaukee, and potentially more crime."This is a transfer of responsibility potentially in many different cases from financial institutions to the taxpayers of the city of Milwaukee and it's bad legislation and we're asking the governor to veto it," Barrett said.Currently, there are more than 350 "zombie houses" in Milwaukee.

Rebecca Bradley 'horribly embarrassed' by anti-gay comments, Walker declines to condemn them

BROWN DEER - Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Rebecca Bradley went on talk radio Tuesday, March 8th to say she was "deeply sorry" and "horribly embarrassed" by anti-gay opinion pieces she wrote 24 years ago.The appearance on Charlie Sykes' show on WTMJ/620AM came as the liberal group One Wisconsin Now released a fourth of Bradley's 1992 commentaries in the Marquette Tribune student newspaper.

Governor Walker, Speaker Ryan deliver remarks at "CPAC" conference in Maryland

MARYLAND -- Governor Scott Walker was in Maryland Thursday, March 3rd, speaking at the Conservative Political Action Convention -- or CPAC.Walker praised conservative legislation passed across the country, but criticized the lack of work getting done in Washington, D.C.Walker suspended his campaign for the presidency in September.House Speaker Paul Ryan also spoke at the convention.
