Southwest launches new nonstop flights from Milwaukee to Nashville, Cleveland

MILWAUKEE -- The largest carrier at Milwaukee County’s General Mitchell International Airport, Southwest Airlines, will launch new nonstop routes from MKE to Nashville International Airport and Cleveland Hopkins International Airport later this year.The new flights will be served twice daily beginning November 4th, and are available for purchase now only at Southwest.com.

Officials: FedEx cargo plane suffers bird strike, circles back to Mitchell Intl. Airport

MILWAUKEE -- Officials at Mitchell International Airport say a FedEx cargo plane that departed around 6:30 a.m. suffered a bird strike early on Saturday, April 8th.Out of precaution, officials say the plane circled back to Mitchell and safely landed at about 6:45 a.m.The airfield was very briefly shut down as the plane approached and landed as a safety measure.Officials say once the plane landed and taxied back to its hangar, the field was reopened and flights resumed as normal.Monitor FOX6 News and FOX6Now.com for updates on this developing story.

Loaded firearm discovered in carry-on bag at Mitchell Airport; passenger allowed to continue

MILWAUKEE -- A loaded firearm was found in a carry-on bag at General Mitchell International Airport Monday morning, March 13th, according to a release from the Transportation Security Administration.According to the TSA, a 9mm caliber Ruger LC9, loaded with seven rounds, was found in a passenger’s carry-on bag during X-ray screening at the C Concourse security checkpoint.Per standard procedure, TSA alerted local law enforcement.

Aerotropolis plan seeks to unite development efforts around Mitchell Airport

MILWAUKEE -- The warplane of Captain Lance Sijan, a Vietnam War veteran and Bay View Medal of Honor recipient, has been removed from its pedestal outside of what used to be the 440th Airlift Wing compound at Mitchell International Airport.The jet was removed from that location so that it can be placed in a more prominent spot on the western side of the airport; a place where it will be more visible to more people.
