Clear Channel to upgrade digital advertising at Mitchell International Airport

Clear Channel Airports has won an extended contract to operate digital billboards at General Mitchell International Airport.The new contract includes upgraded technology for the Main Terminal, as well as Concourse C and Concourse D.The billboard upgrades will feature new, large LCD screens up to 75 inches, along with LED video walls.Clear Channel officials expect to invest up to $500,000 in the new technology over the course of the five-year deal.Installation will begin on February 1st.CLICK HERE for more on this story via the Milwaukee Business Journal.

Charter plane carrying Miami Heat slides on taxiway at Mitchell Airport

MILWAUKEE -- Flights arriving and departing at General Mitchell International Airport were temporarily suspended Wednesday evening, January 11th, due to icy conditions in the plane parking/taxiway -- the area where planes taxi to the gate.The temporary suspension was lifted around 7:30 p.m. -- and an hour-and-a-half later, a charter plane carrying the Miami Heat basketball team slid on a taxiway.

"Dynamic destination:" Alaska Airlines to offer nonstop service between MKE and Portland

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele has announced that nonstop service between MKE and Portland, Oregon will begin later this year on Alaska Airlines, according to a news release from General Mitchell International Airport officials.“Oregon is a dynamic destination, and these new nonstop flights will be a big hit among travelers from Wisconsin and northern Illinois,” County Executive Abele said in the statement.  “Portland has never been offered nonstop from MKE before, and this announcement is a testament to the outstanding partnership between Milwaukee County and Alaska Airlines.”The seasonal daily nonstop flights to Portland International Airport will operate this summer from June 5th through August 26th.

Mitchell Airport announces healthy passenger growth in November 2016

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee County's General Mitchell International Airport announced Wednesday, January 10th, they are continuing a growth trend observed in ten of the first 11 months of 2016 -- and served 3.9% more passengers in November 2016 compared to November 2015.According to a news release from Mitchell Airport, with November’s total of 537,433 passengers, MKE served 6,244,680 passengers year-to-date, a 3.3% increase over 2015 for the same time period.“More airlines, more flights, low fares, and an outstanding airport experience are why travelers keep coming back to MKE when they need to fly,” County Executive Chris Abele said.  “It’s great to see this positive growth trend continue for nearly all of 2016, and we are looking forward to more good news in 2017.”The release states Mitchell Airport continues to promote its new air service and convenience with the recent launch of its new rebranding and ad campaign, “Wherever Your Heart Desires,” which continues to spread the message that MKE is the choice airport for friendly, personal service for travelers from throughout Wisconsin and northern Illinois.“Whether it’s our new ad campaign, terminal improvements, or nonstop flights to warm weather destinations, there are many reasons why travelers choose MKE,” Airport Director Izzy Bonilla said.  “I thank our loyal travelers for their continued business.

Norwegian Airlines launches service from Milwaukee's Mitchell International Airport

MILWAUKEE -- There's a new airline flying out of Mitchell International Airport as of Friday morning, December 23rd.Norwegian’s 2016-2017 winter schedule includes nonstops from MKE to Mexico (Cancun, Cozumel, Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo, and Puerto Vallarta), the Dominican Republic (Punta Cana), and Jamaica (Montego Bay).

Mitchell Airport receives $105K check from Focus on Energy in recognition of lighting upgrades

MILWAUKEE -- On behalf of Milwaukee County and Mitchell Airport (MKE), County Executive Chris Abele accepted a $105,000 rebate check from Focus on Energy at the Airport on Tuesday morning, December 13th.The rebate to Milwaukee County was presented in recognition of the Airport’s recent project to install nearly 4,000 new lamps in the parking garage.According to a press release, the new energy-efficient fixtures reduce electrical consumption by one-third due to occupancy sensors and automatically turning off lights that are not necessary during daylight hours.“The next-generation lighting system is more environmentally-friendly while providing better lighting for travelers and reduced energy consumption and maintenance costs,” County Executive Abele said.  “Instead of replacing bulbs every four years, the new lights are projected to last ten years.

Volaris to offer flights from Milwaukee to Guadalajara beginning in March 2017

There's a new airline at General Mitchell International Airport.Mexico-based carrier Volaris will begin international flights from Milwaukee to Guadalajara in March of 2017.Volaris is an "ultra low cost" carrier based out of Mexico City, and Mexico's second-largest airline.It will be the first Mexican carrier to offer year-round scheduled service from Mitchell Airport.The flights will run two days a week starting March 3rd.CLICK HERE for more on this story via the Milwaukee Business Journal.

Delta adds nonstop flight between Milwaukee and Seattle

Flight from Chicago makes emergency landing in Milwaukee after possible mechanical issues

MILWAUKEE -- A Mitchell International Airport spokesperson tells FOX6 News an American Airlines flight traveling from Illinois to North Dakota, made an emergency landing in Milwaukee after experiencing possible mechanical issues Saturday night, October 22nd.The American Airlines flight 3232 was headed from Chicago, Illinois to Fargo, North Dakota.An American Airlines spokesperson tells us there was a reported odor in the cockpit during the flight and as a safety precaution, the plane was diverted Milwaukee.The plane made a safe landing at approximately 8:45 p.m.There were 50 passengers on board and three crew members.
