Marquette University eliminating 25 staff positions to cut costs

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Marquette Interim President Robert Wild announced in a letter on Wednesday, February 19th that Marquette University is eliminating 25 staff positions in an effort to achieve cost reductions and needed operational efficiencies."I am sad to share that 25 of our Marquette colleagues have been told or are in the process of being told that their employment with Marquette has ended."The employees impacted are staff; no members of the faculty are affected."With families stretched to the limit in their ability to afford additional tuition costs, these challenging times require us to take difficult but necessary steps.

Two suspects sought in armed robbery on Marquette campus

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Marquette Department of Public Safety officials and Milwaukee police are seeking the individuals responsible for an armed robbery that took place on Monday night, January 27th.It happened just after 8:00 p.m. in the 1800 block of Wisconsin Avenue.The victim, a Marquette student, was approached by a male suspect who showed a weapon, demanded property and then demanded the student's vehicle.The suspect fled in the student's black Lexus (Florida plates F06-5JG) -- along with a second suspect.The Marquette student was not injured and did not seek medical treatment.One suspect is described as a black man, 20-30 years old, 6'1" tall, weighing approximately 180 pounds with a dark-colored bandanna covering his face.The second suspect's description is unknown.Anyone with information is asked to contact Milwaukee police. 

Five MU students hospitalized after allegedly ingesting narcotic

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- FOX6 News has learned five Marquette University students were hospitalized over the weekend for allegedly ingesting an illegal narcotic."McCormick's a freshman dorm, so you know, these kids - hopefully - would know what they're getting into but you never know.

Marquette picks up second Big East win

MILWAUKEE (WITI)-- The Marquette Golden Eagles are now 2-2 in the Big East after beating Seton Hall 67-66.Guard Todd Mayo was the points leader on the day with 19 off the bench, going 9-9 in Free Throw attempts.Jamil Wilson was solid with 16 points and 11 rebounds; his 1st double double of the season.MU lead Seton Hall 40-26 at the half but the Pirates tested the Golden Eagles in the 2nd half.

Vice Pres., Director of Athletics Larry Williams leaving Marquette

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Marquette University Vice President and Director of Athletics Larry Williams announced his resignation on Friday, December 13th.Williams has served in his role overseeing the university's Department of Intercollegiate Athletics for the past two years.

Charley Gargano pleads not guilty to battery charge

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- 20-year-old Charley Gargano pleaded not guilty in a Milwaukee County courtroom on Tuesday, October 8th to a charge of substantial battery.Gargano is the Marquette University lacrosse player accused of dropping acid and punching a female public safety officer.Prosecutors believe Gargano took multiple hits of LSD at the Rave on a Saturday in September.
